Dined at Barenz to celebrate my wife's birthday last night. I should say tried to dine mire like it.
My wife, 2 young children and myself walked in at 630pm. We didn't have a booking, however they did accommodate us by finding a table. There was many empty tables, which in fairness I believe were booked for later bookings. We ordered kids meals as soon as we sat down. these were delivered within 10mins. It was at this time we ordered our meals.
Our entrees arrived in a timely manner, this is where the wheels feel off. We had finished our entrees and were waiting for someone to come a clear the table and call our mains away. After about 20 mins of empty plates sitting in front of us I started to stack the plates to the side, hoping this would give one of the service staff the hint we were ready for our mains. After another 10 mins, we were able to stop a staff member and ask for our mains to be called away and our table cleared.
10 mins later a staff member came to the table and said "sorry that's my bad, the meals will be 15 mins" I don't know what her bad was , I can only assume maybe she didn't put the mains order in. After waiting another 35 mins, I decided we had waited long enough and got up to pay for what we had eaten and leave.
When I went to the counter to ask for the mains to be cancelled and for the bill. I was told "well there is a 30min wait in food tonight!" To which I replied I wouldn't have had a problem with if that was communicated and we had already been waiting 45 mins. She then printed my bill and said 'ok then there you go" and presented me with the bill.
While walking out past the open kitchen, the service staff advised the chef to cancel my mains. This is when I overhead the chef say " Are they walking out? Oh well you get that!"
Having run restaurants myself, I understand things happen that put meals coming out of the kitchen behind, but just communicate this to your guests.
The fact that there seemed to be no concern that a customer had cancelled their meal and was leaving un happy, nor was there any compensation offered was just as disappointing.
Safe to say it will be a while before I think about visiting...
Read moreI booked my 50th birthday here for 23 people eating dinner. When we arrived I immediately realised that there was no where near enough space allocated for our party of 23. Given bench seating only and we were expected to seat four adults per bench seat which barley fit three children comfortably. Some of our party actually needed chairs but could not have them. How awfully uncomfortable! I was so upset and asked to see the duty manager so we could rectify the situation. I did not get her name but she was polite and tried very hard to help us, with a fully booked venue. She gave my husband and I a drink on the house as a token of apology. I certainly dont blame her for the screw up but the fact we had to add a table into out already squashed table and then have a separate table for 4 people placed near by was just so poor. I only give 1 star and this star goes to the duty manager who was a young woman who did her best with politeness and grace, when I was clearly unimpressed! Management should know how to accomodate adults for dinner. While the food tasted great, and it did, our booking was for 630PM and the tables were not served at once but rather an hour apart. First meal around 730pm, last served at 830pm, my nephews and aged parents were fed last!!!!.They were so hungry and tired. I plan to call the restaurant this week, I doubt they will care to be honest. People need to be aware that management clearly cared more about head covers than for a wonderful eating experience. Also the noise was almost unbearable and my guests could not wait to leave. Barenz you lose 4 stars for poor restaurant management, poor drinks service and extremely poor food service. A party of 23 should be fed together. I will never go to Barenz again, nor will my guests. I had an OK night despite Barenz having their best go to at making the...
Read moreFOOD FIND ON THE RUN FROM A PUB Now I won't mention which pub in Camden we tried to have lunch in and the food was so bad we had to ask for a refund, as I don't like to trash places in my reviews, but I'm glad it happened as it lead us to Barenz. We were seated in the open window front, where you can sit and watch the world go by, whilst , in my case, sipping on a cocktail and eating the most amazing, fresh and tasty seafood. I had the popcorn prawns and trio of sliders. One slider was lamb, the other a hamburger and a halumi slider. To absolutely die for. I watched as other dishes were bought out to other tables, and I must say the pizza looked amazing. I must try for my next visit. There is a cocktail menu, but I was made a cocktail that wasn't on the menu, a midori splice, my absolute favourite, and it was no trouble at all. The staff are fast, extremely friendly, welcoming, and absolutely made my experience that much better. There are two gentle levels of seating, by which I mean there is a gentle sloping ramp (wheelchair accessible) up to the second floor were there is more seating and lounges available to sit at, and you'll also find the toilets up there. Fully licensed with a great array of beers on tap. The food is so good. The first thing I always do when sitting in a restaurant is look to make sure I have salt on the table as alot of places i go to, the food and chips are always so under seasoned, which isn't a bad thing, it's just my pallet. But the chef here seasoned everything I ate so beautifully there was no need to add anything. Outdoor and indoor seating Table service Wheelchair accessible parking and entry I cannot recommend...
