On a Friday night, a little food wait is to be expected. I’ve done my fair share of time in hospitality and I truly do get it. When they seated us and told us 25-30 mins we decided it was worth the wait and settled in.
The poor girl running food was really doing her best, though the guy behind the bar truly didn’t seem to have a clue. I could’ve stood by that door for an hour waiting for him to notice me I reckon.
About 20 minutes in, the owner came out and made a big song and dance about heading off for the night, and “be sure to go fire any of my staff if things aren’t up to scratch”.
By the time 45 minutes had rolled around and the tables around us started emptying out, we thought we’d go check that our order hadn’t been forgotten. The girl running food came out chewing a mouthful of food (which honestly I don’t care - she would’ve been so tired and hungry and I hope she got a break) but she saw me waiting, went back to finish her mouthful and came back out. I asked about our food, she went back to check, came back out to confirm the order with me and said “okay perfect I’ll go grab it for you”
…?! So has our food just been sitting there??
And look, if it was $30-$50 I would’ve just copped it and left in a huff. But for $80, an hour of my time and cold pizzas? Something...

This is, hands down, THE BEST PIZZA IN SYDNEY! ok, its in Manly, so you have to hike a ferry to get there by omg, its worth the trip.
Try the mexican for some spicy goodness, and the herb bread for starters. Their pizzas are perfectly crispy, suitably cheesy, and consistently amazing. Being a foodie, it takes a bloody good pizza to impress me and I have to say, the mexican smacks me every time I eat it.
The wine list is magnificent, and very reasonably priced.
In fact no! don't go here, otherwise I'll never get a table.
It is also good for kids... because the atmosphere is loud but laid back so they can do their thing without people getting snotty.
Another thing that makes this place is the staff who are absolutely lovely. Same people, same week and they do their stuff well!
Best for: everything! a blind date, a late night snack after work, a romantic dinner, a foodie surprise, a birthday party, a family meal, it just has a lovely feel to it.
cons: icky shared toilet, but hey, who cares with...
Read moreWhenever we go to Manly, we make an excuse to stay for dinner and go to Beaches. Firstly, it's a laid-back cozy wine bar with an amazing selection of wines at very reasonable prices. Pair this with pizza to DIE for (!) and you have what's one of the best little restaurants in Manly (which is saying a lot, because Manly has a ton of cute little restaurants!).
Their pizzas are just right - super-thin crusts, with fantastic toppings put on in just the right amounts. Aside from the usual pizza selections, there is lots of fresh seafood options ("Dirty Sanchez" a standout fav) and great choices of vegetarian pizzas too (had "Romeo" last night - super delicious and flavorsome). The pizzas are all the same size - perfect for one if you are quite hungry, or two if you can bear to share.
What's more, the owner often sits alongside everyone else and also enjoys the wine and pizza, giving the place a fun homey vibe - that's when you know for sure it's a...
