I am posting this review after emailing Anita in July to discuss my experience in private. Nobody had the courtesy to reply, hence the review. I bought a gelato at Anita Manly NSW 15/7/2024 and was served by a staff member. After preparing my gelato cup she lightly scratched her nose, with her black gloves. She did not wash her hands or change gloves afterwards. -- Hygiene breach #1 She then touched the wafer biscuit with the same gloves, basically this means germs from her nose are transferred to the biscuit (cross contamination). -- Hygiene breach #2 At the counter, she typed some stuff touching the buttons (?) with those gloves. Again, she did not wash her hands or change gloves afterwards. Now the germs from her face/nose are also at the counter-- Hygiene breach #3. Last but not least, I paid by cash, she collected the cash with her gloved hand. Then - have a guess - did not wash hands or change gloves and proceeded to serve other customers. Hygiene breach #4.
There was another staff member who slightly touched her hair with her gloved hand and continued serving customers wearing the same gloves.
I don't think these staff members have had the proper training in hygiene.
There seems to be a major issue with certain food retailers where Staff are wearing the same gloves over and over and are touching their faces / hair / nose or touching other things including money. This is a major breach in cross-contamination. Scratching of the nose is very serious. Some people can be healthy carriers of certain germs that may infect others. I think at Anita they are getting away with breaches in hygiene because gelato is very cold and germs numbers won't have the chance to multiply as rapidly versus for example "room temperature" foods. And touching money with gloves, oh dear, imagine the number of people that have touched that after wiping their bottoms and not washing hands!
Gloves provide a "false sense of hygiene". A clean, washed hand is way more hygienic than an old dirty glove as hands can be washed or sanitised frequently, gloves cannot. There are many high-standards restaurants where the waiters and chefs do not wear gloves. There is absolutely no need if hands are clean (unless the staff has a wound or skin issues). If staff chooses to wear gloves, they must discard them if they touch their hair, face, money etc with those gloves, and ensure they are trained to put new gloves on without contaminating the outside of the new gloves.
I didn't make a scene that day to avoid embarassing the Staff member (there were too many people so didn't think the time was appropriate).
Gelato is good. Hygiene is sub-par. I truly hope next time I visit, that I will not see a single breach in proper...
Read moreMy wife and I had the pleasure of visiting Anita Gelato today, and we were absolutely delighted with our experience! From the moment we arrived, it was evident why there's always a queue outside this charming gelato shop.
The gelato flavors we tried, namely pistachio and mixed berries, were simply outstanding. The pistachio gelato had a creamy texture and a rich, authentic pistachio taste that left us wanting more. The mixed berries gelato was a refreshing combination of sweet and tangy flavors, perfectly capturing the essence of fresh, ripe berries.
What impressed us the most, besides the extraordinary taste, was the attention to detail in every scoop. The gelato was beautifully presented, and you could tell that each flavor was crafted with care and expertise. The staff members were friendly and helpful, patiently guiding us through the extensive selection of flavors and providing excellent customer service despite the long queue.
Speaking of the queue, it is a testament to the popularity and quality of Anita Gelato. Although we had to wait for a little while, it was well worth it. The anticipation only added to the excitement of trying their delectable gelato creations.
The ambiance of the gelato shop was inviting and cozy, making it a perfect spot to enjoy your sweet treat. The seating area was comfortable, and we appreciated the cleanliness and attention to maintaining a pleasant environment for all customers.

Read moreI stumbled upon Anita Gelato while exploring Manly Beach, and I must say it was a delightful surprise. This place serves the best ice cream I've ever had in my life!
The staff member who crafted my ice cream was not only a pro but incredibly friendly as well. I was so impressed that I even attached a video to express my gratitude. They went above and beyond to make my visit memorable.
I opted for the white chocolate and cookies ice cream, and it was pure bliss. The cookies were generously scattered throughout, adding a delightful crunch to every bite. The quality of the ice cream was top-notch.
Anita Gelato offers both indoor and outdoor seating, and on that sunny day, I couldn't resist sitting outside to enjoy my treat and soak up the beautiful weather.
Price-wise, it was reasonable - I paid around 7.5 Australian dollars for this heavenly experience.
