Bella Cibo Italiano, Newport — Restaurant in Sydney

The sign on the front door says 'Waitstaff and kitchen hands wanted' and this become very apparent quickly. This is a family run venue that usually provides home style meals with efficient, simple service but both aspects hit the wall last night. It seems likely that this was the first night in this restaurant for our service lady as she knew very little about the menu, nothing about the wine and was unsure how to make a gin & tonic. Poppa is the cook and he was making a big effort with a full house, but being stretched he could not maintain the quality. When eventually served, my meal was wrong but I accepted it anyhow. Good calamari but the pastas were average at best. Now I understand the ever present staffing issues but are you not better off to limit bookings and then have the time to provide decent service and quality food? The service, food and overall experience were lessened but the price remained the same. It is hard to be happy...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Bella Cibo Italiano, for a birthday party for a group of 14 people. The chef, who is also the owner, and his son were both very welcoming and charming. The menu didn't have any vegan options, but the chef was happy to make a special dish for my son who is vegan. The food was delicious. The restaurant had recently been renovated and the atmosphere was very inviting. Overall, we had a wonderful experience at Bella Cibo Italiano and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great Italian meal in the Northern Beaches. BTW: The bathrooms were clean. One of my upmost favourite restaurant. Pizzas are to die for, the crunchy salad is full of flavour and our main dishes such as the barramundi and chicken boscaiola are very well seasoned, calamari is AmaaaZZZzzZZIng! Service on peak hours can be slightly slower but for good reason as the chef/owner makes sure every single dish is up to his highest standards. Never takes shortcuts compromising service, such as reheating food in microwave as quite few restaurants do… Best part is, the open kitchen is fully visible and even at peak hours you can see how clean the place is.
