This was one burger joint I really wanted to try thanks to its BIG reputation and high recommendations. To say this was an all style over substance experience would be an understatement. The burgers we tried were a Foxy lady and an Old Smokey, both had bits of bone in the burger along with a burnt taste. Now for the chips, it was a box of chip bits which tasted like they'd been cooked in oil that hadn't been changed in a long while. Will I be back? Sadly the answer is an emphatic NO. I really wanted to like this place based on its reputation but I can't, it was horrible. Sorry Burger Hounds.
Response from BH:
"Hello āNo nameā anonymous person⦠please provide evidence of the bone in the burger, we have never heard of this before, this is a serious issue so would have to bring this up with our supplier. The burnt taste as you put it is also known as chargrill. Our oil is changed very frequently so this incorrect assumption of yours is incorrect. It would be appreciated if you could come directly to us and show the issues so we can address them immediately and see the issues you claim. Apologies to be quite abrupt but a review such as this is unhelpful and bad for an in dependent family run business who prides themselves on high quality and high standards."
My response to BH:
I'll address the owner's points one by one: all reviews are essentially anonymous, you don't know who I am with or without a name there; welcome to the internet! Sorry, the bone has been disposed of and yes it would be worth addressing with your supplier, after all these things can happen from time to time. There is a difference between burnt and chargrilled, and sadly they were burnt on this occasion. The chips were awful, perhaps the oil was ready to be changed. Thanks for essentially calling me a liar BTW by telling me my "assumption is incorrect". Apologies with a 'but' are not apologies. It's "independent" not "in dependent". I'm glad you pride yourself in "your high standards", perhaps you might just raise your game for the next customer.
Look your burger shop may have had an "off night", I just won't be back to try it again. Sorry, I really am. There is no malice intended I'm just reviewing my experience and it really...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhen I walked in the young guy behind the counter was wearing black rubber gloves, I ordered, he typed into the cash register wearing the same gloves, he then took the raw meatball from the fridge and flattened it into a patty still wearing the same gloves. After turning the meat patty over he added a slice of cheese, then took out the buns to prepare them `and yes, you guessed itā all with the same pair of gloves. At this point I said no, explained how you canāt handle raw food and buns and salad etc wearing the same gloves. He looked sheepish, apologised and offered to cook me another burger. I said no thanks. So he was trying to do the right thing but simply hadnāt been trained in basic food hygiene. The fault is with the owner, not the kid. Not trained well. P.s. the girl doing the refund couldnāt be less concerned, she had the basic P off, we donāt care attitude. So basically, nice menu, no hygiene training, risk it at your expense. P.P.S. The owner has replied to this review, he wasnāt present at the time, so his statement is not only incorrect, but completely pointless. Firstly, I did pay, and the girl who said she was processing my refund clearly didnāt, I still have a deficit on my bank statement. As for saying that I was wrong in my observation, again he is incorrect. Iāve been in the food industry for 40 years. I watched very closely. I will be reporting this to the council health department, and if I donāt receive a refund I will be pursuing it with the department of consumer affairs. Aggressive owners attacking customers over their review is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been going to Burger Hounds for a number of years and enjoying the amazing burgers. Recently I have been trying to work my way through the menu. My past goto burger has been the Old Smokey but have recently tried The Hound, OG Cheeseburger, Heat and Sweet and The Luxe. They're all delicious, juicy and full of flavour. The Hound was perhaps just a bit too tall for me to eat easily, but tasted amazing. The Luxe might be my new favourite though there are a lot still to try.
When I assess a burger place my first point of call is always their basic Cheeseburger. In Burger Hounds' case, the OG Cheeseburger (with single or double patty) is on par with the best I have had anywhere. The patties are juicy and meaty, with a great balance of sauces, onions, cheese and tasty pickles.
Burger Hounds recently changed their chips over to a more thin and crispy type than previously - I've had a chance to try them and I liked them a lot more than the old style.
I also love the Popcorn Shrimp with yellow sriracha mayo. They're crunchy on the outside, juicy on the inside and delicious with the spicy mayo - make mine a double serving!
If you are going to try it out, go and eat there. Burgers don't travel well and delivery services are generally too slow to be able to appreciate the burgers at their best - not to mention take a huge cut of your money and the shop.
Finally, it is worth noting that Burger Hounds has changed hands from when it was opened by everyone's favourite Canadian. Based on my experience the quality of the burgers is still amazing, that...
