Spacious cafe with large menu, loads of gf options and one item that is gluten free by default. The menu has been recently updated with more options. They stock Nonie's gluten free bread which can be substituted for an additional $3.
The cake fridge is largely unlabeled so it's hard to know what is gluten free. There was one seed slice labelled and it's gluten free (that one you see in a lot of cafes)
I ordered the corn fritters with bacon which are gf by default. I had assumed they'd be pan fried, reducing cross contamination but they are deep fried. These may not be safe for coeliacs if they are using a shared fryer. They tasted nice though they do have spring onion inside, which is typical but less fun if you're on a low fodmap diet.
The fritters come as a serve of three with a generous serve of bacon and a lot of avocado. Unfortunately the avocado on my plate was past it's prime, littered with tiny black dots. The bacon was well cooked, crispy and tasty. The salad was really overdressed - if you don't like dressing, ask for it to be omitted.
Four big outdoor tables for four plus three little ones and a bunch of tables inside. There appear to be heaters outside on the ceiling but they weren't switched on when I was there.
They serve Toby's Estate coffee. I didn't have one today though.
Not sure I'll come back as it's not my local area but if I do I'll go for a safer gluten free...
Read moreThe first thing we noticed on our initial visit to Cafe Hylton was the big smile and warm welcome from owner Teresa. They serve Toby's Estate coffee with the baristas handling the beans and your order with both respect and efficiency. The menu caters for a wide variety of tastes and appetites but what stood out to us was (1) how generous the servings were and (2) how reasonably priced the menu was. On our first visit I loved my huge gooey cheese toastie on sourdough at $8; next time with a friend for lunch we both thought the Happy Green Bowl for vegetarians was a steal at $21. The cafe is blessed with an outside dining area in the shade for warmer months and the lovely balcony that's protected from the wind but captures the sun in winter. There seems to be a constant stream of patrons regardless of the day or hour which is usually a good indication of a consistently great business. Go and find out...
Read moreI Regularly visit on Saturday mornings before my children’s games and consistently the employees are rude and disorganised, it seems they are also understaffed as they are constantly trying to do 3 things at once. I keep returning to see if they have improved on their attitudes but doesn’t seem likely and for the absolutely mouthwatering food. However, the food is excellent, the chef really knows what he’s doing, the burgers are consistently fantastic. The barista despite being under constant time pressures is still able to make a strong but soothing coffee. The prices are quite high considering the service and atmosphere. I don’t appreciate the Costco frozen cakes and muffins or overpriced drinks but I can understand companies need to price gouge in the current economy. It’s time I find a new local cafe to support. I don’t usually comment on business pages but I’m just disappointed with...
