Disappointing and Discriminatory Experience at Hotel Pennant Hills:
Tonight, my group of 13friends and I visited Pennant Hills Hotel, and we were treated with extreme disrespect by the staff, particularly a middle-aged woman dressed in black. From the very beginning, her attitude was blatantly discriminatory.
We were told we couldn’t sit in a specific area because it was being “prepared for tomorrow,” even though other families were freely seated there without any issues. We were denied access to the tables and chairs, which felt completely unfair and unjustified. After an hour or two, they relocated us to another section of the venue, which had a partition wall. We specifically asked for permission from the staff to move the wall slightly to create a more comfortable seating arrangement.
However, the same staff member in black, accompanied by another staff member, came back and rudely dismantled the partition wall without warning. Their actions were so aggressive that they knocked over our personal belongings, such as phones and bags, from the table. Not once did they apologize for this unprofessional behavior.
To make matters worse, at 11:30 PM, they asked us to leave, even though this particular area of the venue is usually open until 3:00 AM. It became clear that their goal was to provoke us into reacting so they could call security to remove us.
This entire experience felt deliberately discriminatory and hostile. Such behavior is unacceptable and completely ruins the reputation of what is supposed to be a welcoming venue. I am deeply disappointed and want others to be aware of how poorly certain guests are...
Read moreLet’s start with the positives—because there are a few. The vegetarian options are okay, in that they exist. It would be nice to have some more vegan options (or at least labels indicating something is able to be veganised), but for pub grub, it does alright. And the portion sizes are huge. The staff were friendly, though I suspect their smiles were fueled by the schadenfreude of watching us endure the chaos that is the kids area.
Speaking of the kids’ play area...The smell? A potent mix of old socks, stale Cheerios, and—you guessed it—urine. It’s like someone bottled the essence of “toddler meltdown” and sprayed it liberally. My nephews ventured in and emerged looking like they’d aged three years, wiser and more cautious about life’s choices.
And then, the parents’ room. If this was an escape room, we failed. The surfaces were sticky (and not with love), the amenities slimey, and the lingering odor made the play area seem like a lavender field. I genuinely expected to find a sign reading, “Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.” One cistern had its lid missing, so kids could splash in the water, and two toilets in the men's toilets were clogged and backed up.
In conclusion, if you’re looking for a dining experience that’s simultaneously very filling but also mildly traumatic, Hotel Pennant Hills is the place for you. 3 stars—one for the giant portions and vegetarian food, one for the staff, and one for the flashbacks we’ll have about the stench for...
Read moreUntil new management DO NOT COME HERE!
Being a regular prior to and whilst rennovations it is a pitty that with the wonderful new venue, great food and generally cheerful staff that there is a particular staff member in management that has a serious chip on his shoulder, I had been warned not to visit the venue from 3 different groups of friends that no longer visit the venue because of the narky manager on duty on weekends. I was at t he venue for a private function for a 21st so decided to ignore previous comments and invited my father up for a beer and to watch the Bledisloe Cup. In a room full of other Rugby supporters watching the game (as when we asked to hace sound on in another empty part of the venue we were told no sound is allowed apart from the designated sport area) Live music started mid-way through the first half, when I asked if the music could start after the game I was told sternly that "music starts at 10 and if you dont like it you can go somewhere else" unfortunately for such a great venue this staff member is bringing the whole venue down.
I left and went to the Eastwood Hotel, met with a smile and great service in general, maybe some staff should visit this venue to get some training, as they are doing a fantastic job!
I am hoping that my next visit is a pleasant one.
if not, this staff member is costing you your reputation within the local community and thousands of...
