Summary: I have been back in numerous times. The food has always been consistent and amazing quality, there is a large selection to choose from, and the chicken really is the star of the show.
Food: you can order anything ranging from burgers, rolls, chicken, salads, soups, desserts. Whatever you order will always be generously heaped onto your plate, and fantastic quality for the price you’re paying. My favourite things to order are the chicken with salads, or the rolls. I have never had any issues with the quality and I dine here at least once a fortnight. If you are a vegetarian, you will be able to find food to eat, as there is a huge range of salads and sides that you can choose from, such as roasted, vegetables, Japanese salad, tabouli, fried rice without meat, roasted potatoes, and even sweet potato wedges. May I say, the sweet potato wedges are so very crispy and crunchy. I can also recommend the Banoffee pie and the tiramisu for dessert, they are delicious. I also like to add that the consistency of the food has been perfect – I have never had burnt chicken, or a badly dress salad, or undercooked chips. Nothing is worse than expecting a juicy chicken because you had a because you had that last time, and getting a dried chicken instead. This place would never do that to you - you can expect great consistency.
Pricing: the price is moderate depending on what you’re buying. They give large portions and the food is delicious. The chicken is always juicy.
Atmosphere: depends when you go, but there can be lines at busy periods because the food is so good. When I dine in, I have always been able to find seating even during a busy dinner period. I suspect most people do takeaway and that’s why there is seating available. You can sit inside or outside. The service is timely (it’s as timely as it can be in a busy period) and the staff are very attentive. There’s one really friendly guy that I enjoy seeing when I order.
Parking: there is parking outside the establishment, but sometimes it can be busy and you may not find a spot. I think there is only about six spaces.
This is one of my favourite places to have dinner, and I frequently feel like dining here, which says a lot about the restaurant. It is part of my family‘s...
Read moreI stopped at Charlies because I wanted "charcoal" chicken. The chicken should be the star of the show right? But the chicken at Charlies was a real let down. The chicken is cooked in a gas rotisserie and tastes, well, just like a chicken from Woolworths or Coles, the stuffing also tastes the same. If I was betting man, I would bet their chickens are sourced from the same supplier. I usually buy my chicken from Texas Charcoal Chicken in Five Dock, now they make a decent bird and it's "char coaled" just like their name implies. But it's not all bad at Charlies, the service was friendly and helpful, they offer many delicious sides to cater for the family. Their home made wedges are good, the cauliflower and cheese is delicious, the gravy was subtle but nice, the rice was good too. They had many other sides to choose, all their sides and other choices looked nice but hey, you can't order everything. Their salad selection looked fantastic, I regret not ordering one their salads. I would go back to try some of their other choices, the next time I'm in town, I'll buy my chicken from Texas Charcoal Chicken and stop by Charlies for some of their delicious sides. In saying that, I'd be a regular and loyal customer at Charlies if they made an authentic "charcoal" chicken. Texas make a mean bird but their sides are average. You can't have it all, in the end, it's the bird that counts in my book. Charlies "chickens" aren't that bad, they're just not great, overall, Charlies offers a wide variety of sides and other dishes, your family would walk away happy, even if the...
Read moreVery disappointed. Have been a regular and enjoyed it until tonight. The owner provided the service to me this time and it felt really ordinary and even unfriendly - I noticed he looked at my t-shirt and what I was wearing and I guess formed an opinion of me. A female wearing black t-shirt, black jeans and leather boots - nothing out of the ordinary. But because my experiences have been mostly good ,I didn't think that much of it. Received the large Avocado vinaigrette salad - with none of the avocado whatsoever just green beans, which is a disappointing first. Then noticed the other staff were giving away 2 tubs of the rice pudding that was coming to end of best before date. When it came to my order, observed how the owner swiped the 2nd tub that staff had placed there away from the bag he was preparing for me. Why? Because the staff weren't meant to be giving 2 away at a time. Ok, then, maybe have a little decency and speak with your staff discreetly rather than doing that in front of your customer. because it seemed really rude and so unnecessary when you're giving them away. Perhaps it didn't mean anything to the owner but to me it was just not the way to treat someone. After the way the owner behaved he has lost a regular customer. With regards to the food, I was fine to overlook that the Portuguese chicken is too greasy.but not anymore. I'll go back to being a regular at...
