Chargrill Charlie's Woollahra — Restaurant in Sydney

Chargrill Charlie’s is a family owned business that has been operating for over 30 years. Beginning in Coogee, they’ve branched out and although no longer in Coogee, they’ve got 11 venues across Sydney and open 7 days a week. We visited our closest store, the Woollahra venue.

It is both a dine in and takeaway venue and they are always super busy. This is testament to just how good the food is. At first it might look like your typical charcoal chicken shop, but it is much more than that with amazing salads, veggies, burgers and desserts and it will have you salivating for more.

From the charcoal grill, their chickens do not have hormone injections and they are beautifully chargrilled, and seasoned with herbs and spices or marinated with Portuguese flavours.

Of course it wouldn’t be the perfect meal without fries. You can get their nicely seasoned French fries chips or their famous hand cut potato wedges or sweet potato wedges. We tried them all and can’t choose our favourite

They use the freshest of ingredients and seasonal produce to make their famous salads, made in house everyday. They will suit a range of crowds and we tried the poke salad, Buddha salad and roasted cauliflower. The Golden quinoa salad was also an absolute winner.

There’s a hot menu with a lot of choice - from baked salmon, chicken drumsticks, meatballs and curry to casseroles and Lentils. We had the amazing lamb shanks and mixed roasted vegetables and they were a great accompaniment.

As we were here for a huge spread, we both got a burger, the chicken and also a cheeseburger. Free range chicken and grass fed beef, fresh butter lettuce, sliced tomato, onion, secret sauce on a milk bun - these were delicious - and huge!

We tried the piri piri sauce and lemon and herb dressing which we also enjoyed.

They have sweets and desserts too, and although we didn’t try, because we were full; the home made apple pie looks like a winner.

Chargrill Charlie’s does catering as well if you’re keen to order a bunch of food for your office meeting, picnics or even private functions.

When you arrive it may appear slightly overwhelming with so many people trying to get the Chargrill Charlie’s fix. But don’t fret, the service is easy. Take a number and wait your turn, service is extremely fast.

Just had a most unpleasant experience at the Woollahra branch of Charlie's Charcoal Chickens.

I ordered the Beef Brisket Dinner which was labeled $17.90 only to be told it would actually cost me $21.90. When I pointed out that they were obliged to sell it to me at the advertised price (which I might add was not cheap) they reluctantly said they would give it to me just this one time - as if they were doing me a huge favour.

Some favour I thought as considering the container was already half empty they very likely had supplied quite a few customers at $17.90 without incident.

Let's just be plain - I hadn't jumped the counter and changed the price label to my advantage AND I always expect to buy a product at the advertised price (and not some fanciful made-up price plucked on a whim from the air).

But revenge is sweet it appears because when I arrived home I found they had given me what definitely looked like a half-serve.

Oh well. I just did a quick mental calculation and figured that in my fifteen years in the neighborhood I had spent well over $100,000 in that shop - and in gratitude for my custom they tried to clip me for $4.

But not a dollar more. Yes revenge can be sweet after all.

PS The one star is for...

Plumped for 1 star but make no mistake, it is wholly enforced and incidentally charitable on account of the forgiving constraints of this ratings system. Conversely, a duck , ironically enough, would be more fitting, all things considered. Alas, my experience is as follows:

Disappointing Experience with Quality and Customer Service

I ordered from Chargrill Charlie’s Woollahra via Uber Eats, and the experience was beyond disappointing. One of the chicken wings had a disgusting feather still attached, which is completely unacceptable for a food establishment of this reputation.

When I called to address the issue, the staff member I spoke to was shockingly dismissive and made jokes about it. This kind of response shows a lack of professionalism and concern for customers’ well-being.

Food quality and hygiene should be a priority, and proper handling of complaints is essential for maintaining customer trust. Unfortunately, this experience has left me questioning whether I’ll order from here again. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and works on improving both their food preparation standards and...
