Club Matto — Restaurant in Sydney

A great local club with good staff. But unfortunately they are let down by the substandard bistro.

The chinese was very average with the duck pancakes being the only highlight. They offer spring rolls and vegetarian spring rolls and we ordered the former but what we received seemed to be vegetarian – full of vegetables and nothing else. The other Chinese dishes were average at best and were served luke warm.

A few of us didn’t go for Chinese and ordered other items from the menu. The fish and chips was probably the best thing any of us had, even though a fisherman’s basket is what was ordered. The lamb cutlets and chips were a decent serving and were good but a little dry.

The biggest disappointment was the $14 ‘Angus’ burger which was inedible and sent back. If there was any trace of Angus beef in the patty, it was hidden in with fillers that made the patty taste like meatloaf – really bad meatloaf. At $14 it would have been good value if it was 100% beef with a pinch of salt and pepper thrown in the mix. This was more like 50% beef at best and 50% unknown ingredients. We received a refund for the burger which was a small consolation. We elected not to order a replacement meal and just shared some of the other food around.

I hope they rectify the issues with the food because it would be a shame to see the patronage of an RSL club suffer because of sub-standard food. Good food is one of the important things at a local club and this needs to be improved at Matraville. I sincerely...

I have never dealt with the worst service from the older lady serving from the bistro. Rude and arrogant! Ordered a nasi goreng. On the menu it’s advertised as a nasi goreng. Does not stipulate what the nasi goreng contains. Received my meal to find its full of seafood. Due to a seafood allergy I had to take it back. I explained to this older lady who replied, “not my problem”. I told her it is and that the menu does not stipulate that it contained seafood. She then said “well I should have told her about my allergy” ah no, you should have a menu highlighting the type of meat or protein it contains. She was very reluctant to give me a refund. When I got a refund she tried to short change me by stating I paid the cheaper members price. Ah no, I am not a member and I was charged for visitors price in which she needed me to prove. This “bistro” has the worst service and I say good luck if you have an allergy, they don’t give a shit and or care...

Nice function room overlooking the dining area. Service staff were very helpful in assisting us to get the technology working. The parking area had quite a number of pot holes. There was plenty of parking available. Cigarettes could be smelt when inside the function room, when the function room door was slightly open. Once we closed the function room door, we no longer smelt the cigarettes.

Food catered was tasty. There was plenty of food and the club provided take away boxes so we could take the food home. The cup cakes were supplied by us.

The catering staff were busy so they provided us with the tools to divide the food onto serving platters. This gave us the opportunity to customise the food platters ourselves. 😀

There was a bar inside the function room. The service at the bar was good. A glass of soft drink was $5, a can on soft drink was $5.50. The wait staff promptly cleared the empty glasses...
