DeFrance Macarthur Square — Restaurant in Sydney

I had a terrible experience today. A young woman with a short stature, long straight brunette hair, who was working at 2:30 pm on 15/03/2025, was extremely rude to us. When we walked in and asked if they had any vegan options for me, she condescendingly and rudely responded, ‘It’s vegetarian.’ Later, she aggressively threw the plate of sultana croissant on our table with such force that I was surprised it didn’t break. My partner was so unsettled that he didn’t even touch his croissant—we ended up returning it to the counter and we didn’t even ask for the refund and just left because the whole experience was so jarring. I could have understood if they were busy, but this felt unnecessarily hostile. On the other hand, the two blonde staff members working that shift were kind. I mentioned the incident to one of them, and she seemed genuinely apologetic. If someone has this attitude toward customers or just any human being for that matter they really shouldn’t be working in customer service. It costs...

What more could I say about De France 🇫🇷, they offer great food at affordable prices. Most importantly for a big cafe of this size, the service is exceptional. Each table has a QR code that brings up the menu, in my opinion this is better as you can see a picture of each dish, whereas the table menu is all in text. If you aren’t a phone person then ordering at the counter is an option too. However I found ordering via QR was much faster and food served quicker.

Defrance offers a variety of food categories as you’d expect from any French cafe. These include: breakfast menu classique rolls savoury & sweet crepes salads burger & fries melts and savouries pastries kids menu drinks

We loved the sandwich melts, also super easy to make at home. The savoury crepes & sweet crepes were okay, but not as delicious as they look. Vienna coffee looked good, however I thought the cup was a bit small and the cream didn’t taste good...

I’ve been to this place twice so far, the staff is lovely (specifically the blonde fella at the front with the beard, my guy needs a raise for his service) however the first time I ate there I received the wrong food. Not that big a deal tbh, it happens. However last time I went we ended up waiting 25min for our food only for my pancakes to come out undercooked and doughy, literally falling apart as I cut them. This is no shot at the dessert staff but at the kitchen, if I’m paying a premium price (which we definitely were) we expect premium food even if it’s just pancakes. To the desert stuff, keep doing what you’re doing you were great, maybe put a bit more Nutella into my Nutella shake next...
