If you're looking for a fun, relaxed, and colorful ambiance with vibrant and playful decor, this Mexican-inspired restaurant might be worth checking out. First thing we noticed as we walked in was that the tables were a bit small, cramped and uncomfortable, especially if you had another group or couple sitting right next to you. However, the attentive staff and restaurant did a good job at timing the meals and spacing everything out so that your small table doesn’t feel more crowded than it already is.
I didn't try any of the cocktails on my visit, so I can't speak to how the drinks were, but I ordered a sparkling water & they added a fresh lime to to it, which was a very nice touch!
As for the food, we ordered a variety of dishes including guacamole, barramundi ceviche, grilled corn, prawn tacos, baja fish tacos, and beef brisket tacos.
The guacamole was delicious with jalapenos on top, but the tortilla chips and guacamole were served together in a mortar, which is such a cute and aesthetic idea, but it resulted in some soggy chips at the bottom. I would have preferred to dip the chips in the guac myself.
The grilled corn is 100% a must-try, perfectly grilled, seasoned, and topped with melted cheese.
Unfortunately, the barramundi ceviche was a letdown due to the overly citrusy flavor. I know ceviche is literally citrus marinated fish, but every bite into this ceviche left me with a sour face due to it being much more citrusy than it needed to be, despite how much I wanted to love it.
The prawn tacos were a standout favorite, but personally, I felt both the prawn and fish tacos had more sauce on them than necessary and were served with soggy iceberg lettuce instead of the expected cabbage (which would naturally have given a more crunchy texture). The tortillas were also disappointing, with the taste and texture resembling standard grocery store-bought flour tortillas, lacking the handmade corn tortillas I would normally expect from a more authentic Mexican restaurant.
Parking on Oxford Street is limited, but the restaurant is worth checking out if you're in the area and looking for a casual spot for margaritas and tacos with friends. However, if you're picky about Mexican food and looking for something that tastes a bit more authentic, this may not be the spot. I grew up in Southern California so I’ve eaten my fair share of authentic and homemade Mexican food so I’m always on the search for a Mexican restaurant in Sydney that reminds me of home.
With all this said, we would come back to eat the grilled corn, prawn tacos, and to try the fajitas and...
Read moreI am truly disappointed by this place. I was referred to by a friend to check this place out. I booked a table for 11 people as it was for my birthday. I booked it a week before to make sure they had the availability for 11 people. I spoke to the ‘manager’ on the phone and via email throughout the week. I made the booking on the Sunday and by Tuesday evening I hadn’t heard anything so I decided to give the number provided on the website a call. The ‘manager’ answered and essentially told me he thought he emailed me back which he did not. After talking to him I was under the impression the booking was made and he would send me through a confirmation email. By the Friday I still hadn’t received any confirmation. So I sent a follow up email to which he confirmed it was booked.
I turned up on Saturday evening with my party to find out the booking actually was not made and the guy greeting customers had no idea about the booking. He did in fact give me a table but it was upstairs with no atmosphere. It looked as if we interrupted a staffs dinner break. The room looked like it was actually used to store unused restaurant furniture. Also there was a kids party happening. I felt totally embarrassed and I could not sit in that room so I decided to leave the restaurant which is something I have never done before. Before leaving I spoke to a waiter and explained to him why I was leaving and all he had to say to me is “what exactly is my complaint”. I know that the booking was not his fault but the customer service and an apology was none existent.
So I was left walking around Paddington trying to find a table for 11 people to have dinner.
I am unsure who the guy was I was speaking to at the beginning of the week about the booking. I assume the manager of the Paddington Don Pedros but clearly he needs to be trained on communication and bookings.
It was a very unpleasant experience and I am very hesitant to come back.
I ended up going to The Paddington and they made space for us with a...
Read moreAmazing food but a Mexican place with no margarita!!!
Food was brilliant. Booking was made in advanced. We didn’t know was footy night ! Bar service let tonight down. The end of the night the staff were asking tables next to us no more cocktails - we cant do margaritas !!!!
We arrived joined 2 others, they already had a drink, we ordered ! Waitied was told twice it was coming then , 55 mins other 2 ppl ordered again got there drink 30 mins later. We questioned where ours was - was told what about a round of margaritas just pay 1 we said yes - they never arrived. 1 hour 20 still missing the first drink, then missing the 2nd free drinks, then got told here is a free bottle of wine - but I really wanted the pineapple margarita !! Was told no.
Came to paying - we said again we never got the first 2 rounds, was told we needed to pay it, even after a male manager said would take off 3 drinks, we again said we never received first second drinks. So had to pay it, as we were tapping our cards again said not impressed . Think he only really listened then the drinks on the top receipt never arrived - but was too late - was a company credit card anyway - just asked if wanted tequila no refund.
