Our final farewell gathering for my best friend, we intended to enjoy a pleasant few hours of last gathering with her with the hope of having a good food at a decent place. We chose Ellu based on promising reviews, although we did not thoroughly check the lower-rated reviews sound to be more genuine. Reading what the owner replied to those lower rated reviews, I'm being more confident that I may deserve the right to share my sad moments at Ellu on Sunday 18th Aug.
We ordered three coffees and three dishes.
When our coffees served, we simply asked why our ''Black Sesame Latte with Extra Shot'' is coming in two different cups as opposed to what we have been drinking in almost anywhere with the extra shot added while making the coffee; the owner, who had a ticket on herself, got offended and poured the both cups into the milk Jug following by ordering the barista (in korean) to ''steam this again for them'' AND IT RETURNED BACK WITH BOILING TEMPERATURES
I understand that people might have bad days which highly impacts on the customer service; but I do not really think I'm deserved to pay while being ignored, insulted, and misbehaved.
On top, the foods were extremely tasteless, which was not surprising given the poor reception we received at the outset.
I wish if this review could help people to avoid having a bad experience in this place.
when we asked about the separated shot, the owner also told us that barista was making mistakes. Point of this review is our coffee was poured into the Jar and returned back again with boiling hot to the customer.
Also the way of the owner’s comments for all lower rated reviews are definitely showing how you are...
Read moreEllu is definitely my absolute favourite cafe in Sydney. It’s somewhere I find myself going over and over again, and a place to surprise my friends with!
Every aspect of this place is very well thought out, and I can see the attention to the smallest of details from the owner. From the interior, the service, the food and the drinks.
The customer service at Ellu is one of the best I’ve ever received, I feel very taken care of in their hands. they always notice if I am in need, and they will always do more than the expected. They often offer small snacks such as cookies or sometimes ice cream to their guests as service, and to check up on you from time to time.
As for their menu, they manage to surpass my expectations every time I visit. Even though the food options on the menu has rarely changed since I have first visited, however they tend to make slight changes to the dish (I assume it depends on what they have available during the day) for example my burrata over the moon was served with kiwis, which I later realised that they don’t often do so, but still you wouldn’t have realised that it wasn’t part the regular recipe with how well the kiwi went with the cheese!
Though they make changes to the dishes(so you might not always get the same thing you have ordered before) but it still holds up it standard and makes me see how much attention to detail goes into it.
I can go on and on about how much I love Ellu, but let me just say one last thing…. black sesame latte 🙂↕️I was never a big fan of black sesame until I tried their black...

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Ellu in Surry Hills, and I can confidently say this is one of the best brunch spots I’ve ever been to. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with such warmth and kindness that instantly made me feel at home.
First, let’s talk about the food—absolutely phenomenal! I ordered the Over the Moon salad, and it was an absolute delight. The creamy burrata paired perfectly with the fresh, vibrant ingredients, creating a beautifully balanced dish. Every bite was refreshing, flavorful, and simply irresistible. It’s easily one of the best salads I’ve had in Sydney.
But the real star of the show was the brûlée toast. I have never had anything quite like it before. The caramelized top had the perfect crunch, while the inside remained soft and decadent. Every bite was pure heaven, and I honestly cannot recommend it enough!
However, what truly sets Ellu apart is the incredible service. The lovely owner (a wonderful lady!) was not only welcoming but also genuinely kind and attentive. She radiates such warmth and positivity that it makes the whole dining experience even more special. You can tell that she truly cares about her customers and takes pride in what she does.
Ellu is a place that I will definitely be coming back to, again and again. If you’re looking for a delicious brunch with top-tier service in Surry Hills, this is the place to go. Highly,...
