Security was absolutely putrid. My friend was the only one out of a party of more than 10 denied entry to the club for a paid LGBT event because she was "showing signs of intoxication". She speaks in a relaxed, drawled tone and because of this was told she was "clearly drunk" and couldn't come in, making the night extremely difficult for us to enjoy. We'd tried to reason with the manager since she had only had 3 standard drinks up until that point and girls who'd drunk more than her were let in. The manager would not listen either.
What was she supposed to do? Just go home by herself? Party alone on Oxford street? Do they expect all of us to forfeit our paid tickets too to accompany her? Truly, truly unreasonable and disappointing. Luckily, another friend offered to forfeit her ticket to take our excluded friend elsewhere but it is ridiculous this even had to happen.
Furthermore, when I was enjoying the event, my partner (who was sitting down and looking after my group's belongings) was approached by a security guard appeared to be in desperate need for a power trip and anger management classes. He told her she had to stand up and that she looked like she was drunk. She explained that she had worked a 12 hour shift and was just resting and looking after her friend's things.
He would not take this for an answer and insisted she was drunk and would kick her out. I told her that was ridiculous that someone isn't even allowed to sit down whenever they want and he kindly offered to kick me out too. I thought, enough of this and just took her to the dancefloor with me. He followed us onto the dancefloor and screamed in my face that he would call the police to which I said "for doing what?". I eventually had to call the manager over to deescalate the situation.
This man should lose his job and I cannot believe a venue that I had such high regard for could employ such a trashy excuse for a human being as a security guard, especially intimidating small framed LGBT women at an LGBT event where we are all supposed to feel safe.
This, on top of the fact that the security and management chose to single out and deny entry to one girl out of many, makes me extremely...
Read moreWas told at the front of the line to a ticketed event, I had already paid for that my "face looked red" and I had to wait outside to speak to the manager. Despite explaining I have SLE, it's a butterfly rash and my face just... looks like this sometimes because of it I was made to wait. I don't even drink because of my SLE, assuming that's what they were implying by saying my face was red.
Waited outside for another 15-20mins for 'manager' to come out, look me up and down and tell me "not tonight mate" then turned his back and walked off inside. At least 20-25% of the people waiting in line whilst I was waiting beside the door for the manager were turned away with no explanation. Again for a pre-purchased, ticketed event.
Post COVID it's like everyone's trying to scam you for a quick buck. How humiliating to have to explain my chronic illness to a security guard in front of the entire line then be made to stand and wait only to be denied entry because of it and not even offered a refund.
Have been here once before COVID and had security guards making rude comments about my age (looking like a little baby etc) after checking my ID despite...
