A pretty fantastic little hole-in-the-wall that's just popped up next to Rockdale station. My partner and I had dinner here tonight and we were really taken aback at how fantastic the experience was.
First impression was that it looked like very good value for money and had a nice atmosphere in the outdoor seating (pretty impressive given that it's next to the train station).
We shared a serving of potato cakes as an appetiser and they were really fragrant and delicious, and came with a really nice mint yoghurt sauce. I wasn't expecting to be able to find something without meat in it as the restaurant has the word 'BBQ' in the name, but the veggie khana curry set surprised and was a really good choice in the end - I got to enjoy a few smaller servings of a few different curries which were all bursting with awesome flavours, some yoghurt, some pickled vegetables (which were different to anything I've had before but really zesty and flavoursome), an interesting and herby-tasting plate of green vegetables, and of course some rice in the middle. My partner ordered a chicken skewer plate which also came with curries and pickled vegetables on the side.
The wait staff were also really friendly and happy to help us decipher the parts of the menu when we weren't sure what something was, and telling us what each item was when the plates came out.
Rockdale has a lot of Nepali cuisine on offer and they're all very nice places to eat but this was by far the best experience we've had so far. I wish I'd taken a photo of our food to post but we didn't think we'd be blown away enough by an ordinary weeknight dinner to go posting about it online. All in all we really enjoyed the experience and will definitely be...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at a Nepalese restaurant in Sydney, and it was an experience that I will not soon forget.
The standout dishes for me were the jhol momo and skewers, which were both bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. The momos were filled with a delectable mixture of spiced vegetables and meat, and the jhol (soup) they were served in was the perfect complement, adding a comforting warmth to the dish. The skewers, on the other hand, were juicy and tender, with a perfect char on the outside and a burst of spices on the inside.
The service at this restaurant was also exceptional, with attentive and friendly staff who were happy to recommend dishes and offer guidance on the menu. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with traditional Nepalese music playing in the background
I can honestly say that this was one of the best Nepalese meals I have had outside of Nepal, and I will definitely be coming back for more. If you are looking for authentic Nepalese food that will transport you to the streets of Kathmandu, then this is the place for you. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable dining...
Read moreFood: The food is incredibly tasty. The buff sekuwa with sauce was a standout — so authentic it felt like eating back home in Nepal. The pork chowmein was also excellent, full of flavour and cooked just right. The khaja set was good, though the radish pickle could be improved or swapped for something fresher. The jhol momo was hands down the best — definitely worth getting 1.5 plates, since one plate only has 8 pieces.
Service: The service was friendly and welcoming. However, food can take a bit of time to arrive, so it’s best to come prepared to wait a little. Patience pays off here.
Atmosphere: It can be hard to find a seat, especially around 8–9 PM, which shows how popular the place is. That said, the vibe is cosy, and they’ve thoughtfully added heaters for the colder season — a nice touch.
Recommendation: Highly recommend trying the jhol momo (go for 1.5 plates) and buff sekuwa with sauce — they’ll transport you...
