I recently visited here for a family dinner on a Friday night, 1st of August after seeing reviews. However, our experience was disappointing for several reasons. Upon arrival, we had a reservation but were initially seated at a table in the middle of the restaurant. After requesting to move to a corner table for more privacy, the staff kindly accommodated us. However, shortly after we ordered, the staff repeatedly approached us to ask if we wanted to move again because they were about to start serving argilah (sheesha). Given that we had a baby with us, this was quite inconvenient and unexpected, as we were not informed of this beforehand. The most concerning part of our visit occurred during the payment process. Our total bill was $172. My husband paid $150 in cash and indicated he would pay the remaining balance ($22) on a card. I clearly remember the staff repeated 50$ in cash where my husband confirms 150$ cash and the rest on card. However, she charged $122 on the card and providing us with a table receipt instead of a proper transaction receipt. The following morning, my husband noticed that the charges did not match our expectations. We called the restaurant to report the issue, and the staff informed us that the owner would review the CCTV footage and then call us back. Unfortunately, no one contacted us that day. After several follow-up calls over the weekend. We called again and we were told the owner was busy and kept saying he would get back to us. The staff also mentioned he would share the CCTV footage upon reviewing. On Tuesday when I inquired about how they handle customer issues, the staff mentioned they had checked the camera but could not share the footage for security reasons. This lack of communication and accountability is very disappointing. Overall, I had high hopes for this restaurant as a nice halal dining option, but this experience has left me dissatisfied. I cannot recommend this restaurant based on our experience, as it seems they do not prioritize customer service or resolve issues effectively. And I respectfully Suggest you to review that cctv footage again.

I try not to leave a bad review for local businesses but I have to be honest and this is how I felt about my visit to George’s cafe: Customer service: 4/5 Staff was friendly and would serve you with a smile every time. Although I had to ask the staff three times to take our order but it was a busy time and I don’t blame them. Staff kept checking if the food is ok and if we are happy with everything etc. People whinging about the wait time and food took 45mins or longer etc, if the place is busy then what else do you expect? Don’t cry over this. You see the place is packed and you took the decision to wait. Just go to some other restaurant if you can’t wait. I had to wait for 45mins, I could have simply left for some other place but I decided to wait. That’s on me not the restaurant. Food: 2/5 Food portions are not as big as they used to be in Burwood. Steak is too small, chips are not that good, small quantity of salad in a bigger bowl with a weird dressing(the one in Burwood was v.tasty). I love my food and when I am having steak for dinner then I mean business! I was disappointed with the quality and quantity as well. Thinking of getting chips and mash as sides??? Well, pay $11.50 extra for the mash!! No, you can’t have complimentary mash on the side anymore. Creamy mushroom sauce is not good anymore, just a runny sauce with no flavor(I had to add salt to get some flavor). Atmosphere: 1/5 The interior is nice and such but the moment staff started serving Shisha indoors was the moment when I regretted coming to this restaurant. I mean for the love of God! we had kids as young as 1 year old with us and you serving shisha indoors! The outdoors area has No smoking 🚭 sign and people were smoking cigarettes. Price: 3/5 TBH the prices are reasonable. I mean if you’re dining out then $70-100pp is the lowest these days. So, I won’t complain about the pricing. People not happy with $5.90 for a can of coke but hey! A couple of bucks extra won’t hurt you. Think about the business too. Will I be going back to George’s? May be, if they keep the shisha outdoors only!

Reply: very unprofessional reply from a business owner. An apology wasn't even made for making a customer feel unwelcome. Just proved my point.

You are the one making your business look bad by your unprofessional reply and calling a customer names.

Google reviews are here for this exact reason, for feedback.

How is it backbiting when I literally posted on here for you to see and I said the first staff member was lovely and the food was nice also gave the food 4 star review?? That is what Google reviews are for, feedback to the business owners.

What's funny is I was literally thinking of giving this business another chance and hold an event here for a huge number of people but that reply just shows the rude customer service I was complaining about.

Original post. This review is not to make the business look bad but rather on where the business needs improving.

Last night was our first time at this restaurant and at first I thought the staff were lovely up until we finished eating and were waiting 10-15minutes for the food to settle before we order our desserts and more drinks to then have a lady come up with a plastic bag (10 minutes after I had put the left over food in a takeaway container) and I thought ok I never asked for it and it never came the first time around but that was nice but odd to come out 10 minutes later and literally minutes after her a male staff approched us advising us the table was booked and we had to leave within half an hour even though there were plenty of empty seats around and we weren't even offered another seat. On the very rare occasion any restaurant had said the table was booked they ALWAYS offered another table for us. It then clicked to me that the plastic bag was a way to get us out because we had finished eating and not ordered anything else for 10 - 15minutes (even though we were just about to order desserts and more drinks). I definitely felt we were just a number and it was all about money and not real customer service. The funny thing out of all of this is I work for an events company and I was thinking "oh this is a big place and might be nice to hold a few events" and when we were somewhat politely kicked out, this restaurant definitely won't be on my list of venues.

If you want to have a nice dinner and relax and chat with your friends then this is not the place. It is an "in and out" restaurant.

We went to another restaurant for dessert and we were never rushed. We enjoyed our dessert and drinks and relaxed like how eating out should be.

This place is on the expensive side for average food, especially when there were no options for dietry requirements either. However, the food was nice.

Just because we were basically made to feel we had to leave and rushed and felt like we were just a number I won't...

I'm really sad that I have to give a 1 star rating. I was really routing for these guys to bring back the nostalgia of the burwood days. The waiters were lovely I must say, but the wait time and food quality was not up to even an edible standard. We went as a group of 5 and ordered 5x of their traditional chicken mushroom dish. Sadly all 5 dishes were completely raw and inedible and were promptly removed from the table. Also the Chips were cold and the food had almost no flavour. The waiters were great in the sense that they acknowledged, agreed and profusely appologised for the inedible dishes and gave us the option of starting the order again. However the wait time would have been another 45 mins after already waiting almost an hour for our orginal order. By then we were bit turned off dinner and over the wait time and decided to leave. We payed for our drinks and very underwhelming entrees. But in all honesty the situation could have been corrected if the manager had appologised to us and offered to cancel the drinks bill since we needed to now find a new place to have dinner. Sadly our night was ruined by that time and we left without dinner. I think if they offered to cancel the bill and appologised to us I would have come back and given them another go and not written this review. Mistakes happen in a new restaurant finding their feet and I don't particularly like writing them off if they delt with the issue in a good way.

Another thing to add, given I was heavily pregnant, I asked to get a chair with sides as the small bar looking chairs we were seated on had minimal support. They told me it was "a bit of a stretch" to give me a different chair because other tables with different chairs were reserved, even though no one was sitting on them the entire time we were there and we also had a reservation and thus my friend decided to arrange a chair for me after about 30 mins.

If the situation was dealt with better I would've loved to give this place a second chance. But sadly it went from bad to worse. Starting the moment we entered the the place from wait times, uncomfortable seating that could not accommodate for customers needs, inedible raw food followed by a poor way of managing errors.

Sorry guys perhaps if the old chef is back we may just give this place another go. I'm still holding on to hope that the old Georges makes it's way through and somehow...
