Update June 2024 We had such fond memories of our truffle lunch last year at Goodfields, so we were eagerly anticipating indulging in their truffle menu again this year.
The same party of five made our way back, specifically for their truffle menu. We tried:
• Arancini (truffle, wild mushroom, and cheese-filled, fried eggs, truffle sour cream labneh, warm wild mushroom and herb salad, truffle pecorino, fresh Canberra truffle)
•Beef cheek pasta (braised with truffle, wild mushrooms and white wine, fresh herbs, truffle pecorino, fresh Canberra truffle)
• Fried chicken hotcake (truffle and tarragon-infused hotcake, whipped truffle honey butter, truffle maple syrup, fresh herbs, fresh Canberra truffle)
• Shepherd's pie (truffle and red wine braised lamb shoulder, truffle mashed potatoes, truffle root vegetables, chives, fresh Canberra truffle)
• Lobster chips (butter roasted lobster bites, fried mozzarella, truffle hollandaise, truffle pecorino, fresh Canberra truffle) Added extra truffle to all dishes (yes, we love truffle a lot)
To be completely honest, although all the dishes tasted delicious, the plating and visual presentation this year lacked the "finishing" touch we experienced last year. The sophistication and "wow" factor were missing. For instance, the lobster chips came out looking like truffle on chips, with the lobster shell buried underneath.
While we still enjoyed our truffle meal and the service was fantastic, the presentation left us a bit disappointed. In my opinion, it's still worth a 5-star rating for the taste (the truffle did shine in all the dishes) and service. Will we return next year for their truffle menu? Hmm, we're not too sure.
August 2023 We (a party of five) came here specifically for their truffle menu. We had been wanting to do this since last year (we missed it last year as we were only aware of it after the truffle season). Fortunately, we made it this year (yay) and had an extremely fulfilling truffle fix here with great food, service and ambience.
We had: Jaffle ( 4cheese, truffle cheese sauce, fresh Canberra truffle); Beef Short Rib (Truffled red wine slow roasted rib, truffle and parmesan polenta, charred broccolini, truffle pecorino, fresh Canberra truffle) with extra truffle; Chicken Pie (chicken and mushroom filling, honey and truffle roasted Dutch carrots, truffle pecorino, creamy chicken and truffle jus, fresh Canberra truffle) with extra truffle; *Chips (chips, truffle pecorino, fresh Canberra truffle, truffle aioli) with extra truffle; Avocado (smashed avocado, heirloom tomatoes, feta, poached eggs, fresh herbs, ras el hanout, lemon, sourdough)
I had the beef short rib and the chips and was extremely satisfied with both. Both dishes were well-flavoured and infused with truffle in a way that's not overwhelming yet has a very pleasant truffle flavour. In my opinion, it's a must to order especially if you are a truffle lover :)
My fellow dining companions were happy with their order as well. We all love the ambience, the food and the service.
We will definitely be back again next year to try more of their...
Read moreGoodfields is a beautiful light filled venue on the North Shore offering luxe menu items that show creative flair on display in their creation of the menu and implementation of these dishes. The eatery is located opposite Lindfield train station which makes it super accessible, and if driving, it is approximately 20 minutes from the CBD. There’s ample free parking nearby. We love the fit out of the eatery. Spanning two areas separated by leafy hanging plants, the space has polished concrete floors, plenty of tables for seating, a few booths and benches at the windows. A giant macramé wall hanging is a lovely addition to the styling. Despite the size of the café and the fact that it is pretty much full, it is not noisy at all, so they’ve clearly given a focus on the acoustics. We feel comfortable here and the vibe is buzzing with a good mix of adults, children and families.
Goodfields offers an all day dining menu, which we love, because sometimes you do want brunch items in the afternoon, particularly if you’ve had a weekend sleep in. There’s really something to suit everyone’s fancy; from bircher, to a one pot breakfast, avo on toast and some more creative options that we rarely see on menus for brunch these days. There’s slow roasted lamb ribs, zucchini flowers, and their famous buttermilk fried chicken. Whilst they might be famous for their fluffy hotcakes, and French toast or fried chicken, we opted for lobster tail. The lobster tail is an amazingly decadent meal with a fleshly rock lobster tail sitting on thick grain bread which is topped with mushy crushed peas and two perfectly poached eggs. This is topped with lashings of a creamy crustacean hollandaise We also shared the perfectly cooked salmon with a crispy skin, served with roasted heirloom purple cauliflower, seasoned with chimichurri, sprinklings of feta, roasted pine nuts, herb infused labneh and lemon. Whilst it may look simple, the flavours on the cauliflower are stunning and the fish is a beautiful fleshy piece of fish. We also ordered the goodfields bowl, a bowl of brown rice, plated with an array of roasted dutch carrots, kale, sweet potato hummus, a za’atar crusted avocado, a vegan crumpet and honey mustard dressing. This healthy dish was super tasty with a good mix of subtle flavours and we really like the thin crumpet and this bowl is perfect for vegan and vegetarian diners. If you’re not, you can always add chicken thigh or house tea smoked salmon or poached egg. The counter has a huge coffee machine with the barista serving up cold brew, batch, filter, black and milk-based options using Five Senses beans. If you’re not a coffee drinker, you can order chai tea from Prana Chai, hot chocolate from Melbourne’s Mork Chocolate, smoothies, juices or...
Read moreIt is to my shock and disappointment today that when I visited Goodfields Eatery this afternoon I experienced appalling treatment by the staff member behind the till. This man must be the manager or boss, as I have seen him countless times when I have dined in with my family. He is tall, Caucasian , bald and older and has a bit of an accent . I came in said hello , smiled and proceeded to have a Look through the glass windows at the sweets on display. When I touched one of the glass lids on display at the front counter he immediately proceeded to abruptly scold and berate me in a nasty and rude manner as if I was a child, loudly scolding at me I “cannot do that “ and “don’t do that “. The way this man snapped at me with an angry tone was patronising, rude and condescending . His reaction was so loud that the staff member next to him stopped and stared at what was occurring . As a retail business owner myself it is so highly unprofessional and completely poor form to overreact so rudely to such a small, insignificant and petty thing . A little kindness, and politeness goes a long way .This is not how an adult should be speaking or behaving toward another adult ,with such little respect and so harshly- let alone to a paying customer . I am a frequent brunch customer with my friends and family spending around the $150 mark each visit -since 2019 when we moved to the local area. Sad that we will not be returning and will be warning our family and friends of what happened and the unfortunate attitude and behaviour I encountered today . Food is amazing -but customer Service and basic human decency, treatment and respect to another human being from this man is just so shockingly appalling .
In response to owner’s reply:
Thank you for your prompt apology.
However It is sad and disheartening to see that George is not being completely honest with his recount, and twisting the truth to protect himself. But I understand that staff would be in damage control and by all means will try to protect their image , jobs and reputation of themselves as well as of Goodfields, knowing that this is such a public platform. Logically I, nor any customer would take the time out of their day to write a review of false nature , just for no good reason or just for fun. I am happy to accept the video as well as audio footage. On a side note, I definitely said hello on my way in, but I suppose I was not loud enough for George to hear, which is a shame. I would have just appreciated the acknowledgment that George could have acted towards his customers with much more kindness, professionalism...
