We had the oatmeal and morrocan lamb eggs. The Cafe is nice and open, with plenty of natural light spilling in. We were pointed to our seats, and left without menus. Eventually someone came around and dropped menus off, with just a muttered 'hey how are you'. We were left sitting looking at our menus for about fifteen minutes - we weren't sure if it was table service or you order at the counter as no one said anything and staff kept walking past us avoiding eye contact. Eventually our orders were taken though. Most of the staff were standoffish and looked bothered by being at work - there were only two who I actually saw return a smile. The oatmeal was very basic - it came with a pretty set up, but didn't taste at all house made - was indistinguishable from uncle tobies oats. The morrocan eggs were nice but a small serving size. For the price, neither were stand outs. Definitely not bad food or coffee, but wouldn't return just due to the staff bringing down the entire mood in the cafe. Hard to have a lovely weekend brunch when you feel as if you're bothering the people working there.

We (party of four) were here at The Runaway Spoon for lunch on a Friday afternoon. I recommended making a booking as it does get busy particularly during lunch time. When we arrived, it was already packed with diners and we saw all these nicely plated dishes gotten brought out from the kitchen, people eating/drinking and chatting away, a truly vibrant atmosphere (love it). We ordered 1) Nourish bowl 2) The spoon wagyu beef burger 3) Fried chicken & waffles 4) Double baked spinach, ricotta & pumpkin soufflé I had the Fried Chicken Waffles (with Canadian maple Syrup), the combination savory and sweet hit the spot and I pretty much emptied my plate fairly quickly 🤪 Although I didn’t try my dining companions’ dishes, all their plates were also empty by the end of our meal 😁 They also have outdoor seating and I’ll definitely be back with my pet parrot!

It has been a while since we last visited and both the menu and decor have received an update since our last time here. I had the burger with sweet potato chips and it was quite nice. I asked for the truffle aioli to be left off but kept the chilli tomato chutney. The chutney was nice but there was just too much of it. The chilli content was extremely mild. I couldn't really taste the chilli. All that being said, the burger was good and the sweet potato chips were excellent. My wife had the soft shell crab tacos and said that they were also very good. They delivered the tacos to the table but there was a long wait for my burger. The coffee was very good and hot, as we asked for. We'll be back.

If I could give The Runaway Spoon zero stars, I would. This place is a shining example of how not to run a business, and my recent experience left me frustrated, out of pocket, and completely unimpressed.

I placed an order with them and shortly after realised I needed to cancel. Simple request, right? Apparently not for The Runaway Spoon. I called immediately to explain the situation and politely asked for the order to be cancelled. What followed was one of the most unhelpful, dismissive customer service experiences I’ve ever encountered.

The person on the phone clearly had no interest in assisting me. I wasn’t met with any effort to help, just a cold, robotic tone and a blunt “we can’t do that.” No apology, no explanation, just an attitude that screamed, “not my problem.” I even tried to clarify how early I was calling—well before the order could’ve been prepared—and still, they outright refused to help or escalate the issue.

It honestly felt like I was inconveniencing them just by calling.

What makes it worse is that the issue could have been so easily resolved with a little bit of effort or care. Instead, I was left stuck paying for an order I didn’t want, thanks to their complete unwillingness to assist. Most decent cafes would understand and try to work something out, even if it meant a small cancellation fee. Not here. They took the money and ran, just like their name suggests.

And let’s talk about the attitude. There was no attempt at empathy or customer care—just flat, borderline rude responses that made it clear they couldn’t care less whether I ever came back. (Spoiler: I won’t.)

With so many fantastic cafes around Lane Cove, it’s baffling that this place is still in business. If you’re looking for a friendly, reliable spot that values its customers, I’d recommend literally anywhere else. Go to a servo for a coffee instead—you’ll probably get better service and at least a smile.

The Runaway Spoon didn’t just drop the ball—they picked it up, set it on fire, and kicked it into traffic.

Save yourself the time, the stress, and the money. Run away from The...

Runaway Spoon in Lindfield offers a nice, relaxed spot for a casual meal, especially if you’re in the mood to sit outdoors. The outdoor seating area is inviting, with a cozy atmosphere that’s perfect for enjoying a sunny day or a leisurely brunch. It’s a great place to catch up with friends or grab a quick bite while people-watching.

The food is decent—nothing groundbreaking, but it hits the mark for a satisfying meal. You can expect fresh, well-prepared dishes, though the menu leans toward comfort food. The variety is good, and while the food isn’t overly complex, it’s certainly tasty and well-portioned.

One highlight for me was the coffee. It’s consistently good, with fresh, rich flavors that make it a perfect pick-me-up. Whether you’re after a flat white or something stronger, they’ve got you covered.

While Runaway Spoon may not be a culinary destination, it’s a solid choice for a low-key meal or coffee stop. It’s worth checking out if you’re nearby, especially if you’re after good coffee and a relaxed outdoor experience. Would definitely return for another coffee! Been getting home deliveries from these guys during Covid19. Food is fresh well prepared and service is fast and reliable.

But it was an incident that took place regarding one of the Runaway Spoon’s Lemon Citron Tarts that “took the cake”......

I meant to order one of the said Tarts in a home delivery lunch order but actually forgot to do so after paying with a credit card. I was unable to add an amount to the payment without paying for the whole order again (like a double charge).

So I called the restaurant and asked if I could add a Tart - the gentleman (one of the owners?) said yes. I said I’d pay cash on delivery - he agreed happily.

Then I realised there wasn’t any cash in the house - and so I rang back and canceled it.

When my order was delivered, I was stunned to see a delicious Lemon Citron Tart in the bag - they prepared one anyway and gave it to me free of charge.

To the owners - your generosity is really appreciated.

Things may not be easy right now due to the current restrictions in place.

You guys are a hard act to beat and you deserve the very best .

Thanks again for your excellence and...
