We had a horrible lunch experience at Gringos Putney today. Went there for a bite around 3.30pm. We had a late breakfast and hence didn’t order huge portions. We ordered 2 X kids burritos and one adult regular bowl. There was no one else in the restaurant but us. The lady didn’t even smile taking our order. Order was served in about 15 to 20 minutes. The lady brought out the order over two times (first the kids then the adult burritos). There was zero eye contact or acknowledgment even though we said ‘Thank you’ on both occasions. This left us feeling quite underwhelmed. We hoped the food would compensate for this dry attitude. The food was average at best. GYG serves much tastier food, that too with a smile, although their business is not built on loyalty to a specific outlet. The guacamole was not fresh and the veggies not freshly sautéed as claimed. The extra hot sauce didnt add any punch. It is outrageous that Gringos can get away with appalling service and mediocre food. Makes one wonder if all the rave reviews are fake? What made our experience even worse is that the waitress served another Caucasian couple who came after us. We observed that she served them courteously with a smile. I am not saying the staff are racist, but one would be compelled to think so, given the disdain (for context we are Australian Indian) through our dining experience. I didn’t get her name, but she had short hair and is around 50 years old.

Gringos, you need to up your service (and food) many levels if you want to stay in the game. Putney (and Australia) is a very multicultural place and there is no place for such behaviour in hospitality, where there are options galore. Hope this review serves as a reminder that customer service trumps interior decor or fitouts any day! Please focus on that..
