Hakiki is one of those dessert spots that hits the sweet spot between tradition and indulgence. You’re greeted by a warm, low-lit interior with a wide display of vibrant Turkish-style ice creams and a whole cabinet of baklava variations that instantly tempt you to order more than you planned. We tried the pistachio baklava, künefe slice, and a generous scoop of dondurma, the stretchy, dense Turkish ice cream that Hakiki is known for. The baklava was flakey and syrupy without being overly sweet, with just the right amount of ground pistachio on top. The künefe came with a dollop of cream and had that satisfying contrast of crunchy shredded pastry and gooey filling. But the real star was the ice cream. We had fig & walnut and coconut chocolate swirl, both rich, chewy, and packed with flavour. The fig one especially had little bursts of texture and natural sweetness that paired beautifully with the pastries. My friend got the feta and melon which sounds like a strange combination to me but it tasted very fresh and flavourful as well. It didn’t taste like standard cantaloupe at all, but more reminiscent of japanese sweet melons? Definitely a sleeper flavour I feel. Outdoor seating is minimal but functional, especially on a cool night. It’s casual and self-service, but the team behind the counter is friendly and quick. Definitely a great spot to end the night after dinner in Newtown, it’s not flashy, but it delivers where it counts.

Hakiki, which translates to authentic, real and/or genuine, lives up to its name in every way. It’s a must-stop for me whenever I’m in Sydney. The range of flavours are stunning, and the authentic Maraş dondurma (ice cream) is as beautiful as it is unique. Perfectly balanced and stretchy like chewing gum, the way it’s meant to be! My personal favourites? Turkish Delight, Turkish Coffee, and the surprisingly addictive yet unique Mediterranean flavour of Melon + Feta. These are must tries if you haven’t already… Flavour combos that are bold and unforgettable. Their desserts are equally impressive, with baklava that comes in its authentic self and a twist (the rhubarb flavour is a game-changer). Pair it all with their authentic Turkish çay (tea) or coffee and you’ve got the perfect experience. I love that Newtown is the OG store with its unbeatable vibe, but the expansion to Burwood makes indulging even easier. I’ve sent countless friends to try the experience of Hakiki and they’ve all fallen in love too. It’s never disappointing. Hakiki isn’t just dessert… it’s exactly what its name promises: genuine, authentic, and unforgettable.

One of the staff is very rude and unprofessional They are not respecting their own rules. “No smoking” signs across all tables and this smart ass staff member sitting on the corner next to last table in the attached photo smoking!!! I have complained to other staff, they apologised and told him to leave this spot. After he finished his cigarette, he came to my table saying” you should come to me” in ordering tone. I replied back I am not coming back here again as this shop is managed by hypocrites. Smoking cigarettes by staff where it’s clearly marked no smoking shop/area exposing me someone with asthma to inhale the smoke and deal with bad attitude. He replied back, “We don’t want your tea” because I called him out. He kept arguing that he was sitting 400 ms away from the food which is bullshit & finally he said to me “ if you are having a bad day, don’t take it on me” instead of taking accountability and acknowledging the poor customer services.

Absolutely appalled at the customer service here. If I could give 0 stars I would. The guy who served us was so rude (not sure of his name but I believe was Turkish, looks to be in his 20's or 30's for identification purposes). Myself and my partner came in last night, as I was thinking what to get looking at the waiter, then the menu and then my partner trying to decide quickly as there was a line of people behind me I said "Hi, can I get 2 scoops in a cup" then smiled but the guy just stared at me almost like a stare off it was weird. He then said "what if I said no". At first I thought he was joking so I laughed it off and had some friendly humorous/sarcastic type banter but then he proceeded to say "how about a please is that too hard". At this point it was so uncomfortable and awkward I looked at him then my partner trying to figure out if he was being serious or joking but then he said "well makes sense your Aussie" I said "I'm not 'Aussie' though" and he says "well you sound like it". I thought how incredibly rude, so what you assume that I'm 'Aussie' because i didn't say please and essentially insinuating Aussies are rude like that? Are you for real wow it was disgusting behaviour, racist and just terrible customer service. Sat down had the ice cream, bland. The Kunefe ok but nothing special, have had way better at many other places. Even if I wanted to I couldn't enjoy it because of how uncomfortable he made me feel. It's the next day now and I wake up still thinking about this. Such distasteful behaviour im honestly shocked and still processing it as I have never experienced anything like this before on this level and now after reading negative reviews specifically about the poor customer service and rude staff it all makes a...

Absolutely one of the worst places I’ve been so far…!!!

Firstly me and my friend came to this place to celebrate a milestone in our life and ,I’ve heard this place had good desserts.

Well I was mislead because when we where greeted, this guy at the register was absolutely rude and was trying to do the bare minimum of customer service. He lied to me and my friend about the knefeh being larger than it actually was and said it could feed more than 2 people, so me and my friend got that along with baklava’s which was very stale when I took a bite into it!

We got to sit outside to wait for the knefeh to be served to us because inside was full of people and cramped inside and outside there was chairs and tables for children, basically almost sitting on the floor so anyway the rude guy comes to serve us the knefeh and to our shock it was only so small that it was made for one person. We told him ‘what is this we ordered a large one’ and he said that’s the one we ordered and to make another one we would have to wait 20more minutes.

At this point me and my friend where thinking of just getting up and leaving. Because at this point we felt uncomfortable and unwelcome being here by just the treatment of this guy, seeing he was treating everyone else friendly and not us.

The baklava was trash the knefeh was a let down and the customer service was non existent. so my review for this place is probably one of the worst reviews I’ve done. I give this place a minus 1 star out of 5.

I won’t be recommending this place to even my worst enemy, never coming...

GO THERE IF YOU WANT TO BE RUSHED TO ORDER, AND CHASED FROM YOUR TABLE

The food is good but terrible service.

There were a lot of people on this Friday night and the shop was very busy. One of the male staff was very impatient:we were looking at the baklavas trying to decide and he kept staring at us so we would order, when there were plenty of other people to stare at.

So we began ordering and were hesitant (as we still hadn't decided obviously....) and he kept showing us an impatient face. I showed 3 baklavas we wanted (which were in a row) and he yelled "I don't understand, I cannot see, you have to tell me the names"........ How difficult is it to pick 3 baklavas in a row?

Then we sat at an indoor table right across the counter, he prepared the baklavas and went all the way to the outdoor area looking (?) for us. Finally we waved him, he came back without apologising even though the baklavas had travelled back and forth and maybe caugh the covid droplets of 10+ other customers.

We ate our desserts, as soon as the plates were empty that same male staff just casually came and kind of elongated his arm on our table to reach for the empty plate, without asking us if we were done or even acknowledging the fact that he was "lying down on the table", cutting our group in 2. May I add that he was not wearing a mask as he muscled in into our table.

I don't know if other customers (white?) would be treated the same way. We were 2 Chinese + 2 Indian.

Will NOT be...
