Came here after seeing a TikTok video. Travelled 1.5 hours to get there. The place is very small, the video made it look huge, must have been the lens and there’s only a couple displays with food. I got the Melon Pan, the Japanese Sausage bread, a Strawberry Mochi and a Long Black. Coffee was very good and great temperature.

I tried a mix, the Strawberry Mochi was good, it had different layers of goodness: Mochi, cream, strawberry jam, sponge cake. The Melon Pan was tasty and sweet and the Japanese sausage bread was my highlight, very yummy and full of flavour.

However, for the price and the hype I was expecting a lot more. I have been to Japanese bakeries in Japan so I was looking for somwrhing like that. You can find similar (or the same stuff) in George Street for half the price, there’s different Japanese bakeries there.

Overall great experience, the girls working there were incredibly kind and nice, they set up a socially distanced chair for me outside too. But I wouldn’t travel again just...

I was not happy with service providing by your staff.

When i am asking mentaiko , she mentioned 5 minutes and i said ok and ask order for 1 mentaiko. When finish to pay and check docket there is no mentaiko been charged and why she asked me to wait in outside. I told to other staff after she gave me my matcha latte and she went to talk to staff who served me and she said i need to queque again. Even it is not my fault and i am running out of time to go see my doctor. She even not apologize about what she is done. Even 20 percent but if service not so good, prefer not go to here when we have to drive 1.5 hour from our place to go buy this cake and bread Why she ask me to wait for 5 minutes and ask to queque again. Even i have been there many times but this is worse serving ever for me. Food and drink can tell is noce but service providing is not good Hope this can...

I finally checked this place out after hearing so many people call it a must-visit spot in Sydney for Japanese baked goods and yeah I understand now.

Grabbed the matcha melon pan, which had that perfect crisp cookie top and a soft, fluffy inside with matcha cream filling which had a subtle matcha flavour that was not too sweet, just right. Also tried the yuzu almond chocolate pain suisse, and that one really surprised me. The yuzu gave it a refreshing citrus kick that balanced out the richness of the chocolate and almond cream. Super flakey and buttery too, probably my favourite of the two.

The bakery itself has a cosy, homely feel with shelves full of savoury buns, fluffy loaves, and colourful cream-filled pastries. They also have a nice collection of cakes and curry breads which I unfortunately did not get but will try if I come...

Azuki Bakery in Newtown is a hidden gem, and I had the pleasure of trying some of their food! There's a remarkable variety of items to choose from. Whether you're in the mood for something savory or sweet, you won't be disappointed. The Curry pan, Yakisoba pan, and the Kimchi pork sausage roll were all delicious. We also got the Uji Matcha Roll and Basque Yuzu Cheesecake! Located close to Newtown station, this bakery offers quality at a very reasonable price. While seating may be limited outside, it's a minor given how hard it is to find Japanese food like this in Australia! The staff were friendly and efficient. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic Japanese bakery experience in Sydney.
