Last night I went and had dinner at Stinky Bishop - due to COVID there was set times, when we arrived which was ten minutes before the allotted time the staff member at the door said in a very rude and sarcastic way “your reservation is at 630 and what time do you think it is? Yeah not 630” we then waited outside and lined up for the 10 mins to be seated however they didn’t start letting people into the restaurant until 645. We were reminded that we only had the table for our allocated time, which was fine by us but then we were not served or asked what we wanted to order for another 20 mins, whilst the rude staff member from earlier was chatting to her friends at a table and then another bar staff member while there was one staff member was trying to serve 7 tables. The food was really good and tasty, the cheese servings for the price was very disproportionate however the quality of the cheese was up to the standard you would expect of a cheese bar. The music in the restaurant was completely off Brand and not of the genre that you would ever expect of a restaurant - heavy loud rock music in a small space, when one table complained about how bad the music was - the staff member replied there is nothing we can do about it because that’s what the chef wants, not generally the answer you would expect from a business that wants customers. When we ordered the mains we weren’t given anything to serve it with and for a shared plate style menu you would want something to divide it up with, not a used cheese knife. We then were reminded that they needed to table back soon but yet made no real attempts to ensure the service was prompt and sufficient to allow for an enjoyable time.
Other than those issues with the music, and the extremely poor customer service the food was really nice. It is a shame because all those other factors really can make the experience of a good meal bad.
I won’t be coming back to...
Read moreSo after my son’s 20th birthday reveal, and as the sun was setting, our tummies growled. We were deciding whether to eat out somewhere in the south coast or make our way back home. Jayden has always been a big fan of pasta and cheese, so of course it was his choice for his birthday.
We pulled over and googled “Best mac n cheese in Sydney” and it was a little gem in Newtown - The Stinking Bishops that also had a 4.6 ⭐️ rating. Looking at the photos and great reviews, sure enough, we made the drive all the way back and wow, this place was sensational! The aromas of all the different cheeses as you walk into their tiny restaurant, made us even hungrier.
Needless to say, yes Jayden had the most amazing Mac n Cheese! It was the toastiness of the pangrattato and the oozy cheese that won him over. As for me, the Beef Tartare was seriously the best I’ve ever had. I’m still salivating thinking of it 🤤What made it a beautiful overall experience was the sweet candle on Jayden’s plate of Chocolate Fondant. I love it when restaurants add these special touches ❤️
This is another awesome restaurant to check out if you’re ever in the inner west. Staff was super friendly and accommodating which is what stands out for me when choosing a regular place to dine. I couldn’t have any wine as I just started new meds, and they didn’t turn their nose up on me for just sticking with sparkling water. That sealed the ✅ for me. The lovely waitress was very helpful, especially when you have indecisions as you can easily order every single item from the menu. It’s just that good! You know when you found your go to place when you’re already picking out what to have on your...
Read moreI had dinner here with a group of friends a few weeks ago. We had the $60 set menu. The food was quite good. However, I was disappointed with some items related to customer service: We called in advance to make them aware the we were going to have a vegetarian person and a gluten intolerant person so that the set menu could be adapted and we were told it should be ok. However, on the day, the only alternatives offered to the gluten-free person were some gluten-free crackers instead of bread but no alternatives were given to the awesome mac&cheese or the cheesecake. No swaps at all were provided for the vegetarian person so she had two dishes less to try too. Nevertheless, they were still subject to the same price even though they had two less dishes in the menu each. Even though we had a bill of almost $900, we weren't allowed to split the bill. When I tried to speak to one of the waitresses (she might have been the manager or the owner but I am not sure) about this to seek some leniency, arguing it was not very far one person had to cop such a high bill, the response was: it's not very far either that I have to cop the bank fees. I found this quite rude. We were offered to split the bill into two payments in the end but the whole situation was managed poorly in my opinion. So, in summary, food was quite good but the experience turned a bit sour because of the issues above. I think there are other cheese places in Sydney that have food as nice as this and where service is...
