Camperdown Memorial Rest Park is a great park for meeting up with groups. There are a few areas with shade trees that are handy for mums and bubs groups or parties. These are prime location so arrive early if you need room for a larger group. I'm not a big fan of the playground because it lacks play equipment for infants and toddlers. There is enough space for this equipment to be added. Magic Yellow Bus meets there on Wednesday mornings 9.30-12.30, and provides activities for children under age five. it's wise to give the toys a wipe off with antibacterial wipes if your little one will mouth them. Be aware that heaps of groups gather in the park for socialisation that isn't child friendly. It's also a popular park for dog owners to let their dogs freely play. Keep your senses about you, and enjoy the wide open space. Visit the adjacent cemetery and it's historic trees if...

I'm a local so I have GIGANTIC amounts of bias but sorry, this park rocks. There's the playground. Fantastic for kids, bring a coffee, bring the hoards and plonk down in the sunshine. There is always someone or something interesting going on in this park. Whether it's a gathering (large, small, organised or inpromptu), the dogs (all the dogs, even a three legged one!) or just someone practising their art (this list includes acrobats, slackline walkers, twirlers, musicians and practising flare bartenders amongst others!). A sunny Sunday afternoon will see loads of people with a picnic rug, dome food and a bunch of mates down there just... being there. It is a truly local park that does its best to cater for as much of the community as possible. One small complaint... Put in toilets! Preferably bear the kids park. Kinda sick of sending my...

A nice park that's in a U-shape due to the church/cemetery in the middle. Most locals are probably referring to the grassy bit on the Camperdown side when they mention this park, but that's limiting it!

⭐ A sculpture from the Gadigal Wangal Wayfinding Project is here, on the Newtown side (marked on Maps)

🐶 Lots of pups here.

🚻 Toilets on the Camperdown side. They're pretty new, hand washing as well

💦 Multiple bubblers

🍭 Really nice playground, shaded and suits a variety of kids. A bit far from the toilets (that's a downside) but lovely.

🚶‍♀️ Easy walk from the heart of Newtown.

🚘 Street parking is an absolute nightmare. You'll have better luck on the Camperdown side. Avoid...

Camperdown Memorial Rest Park ✅️ Camperdown Memorial Rest Park is a large grassed area popular spot for picnics and casual ball games. With a fenced playground and its leash off dog park Originally the site of Camperdown Cemetery, all but a small walled-off section adjacent to St Stephen's Church was converted into a spacious public park in 1948. The remaining portion of Camperdown Cemetery contains a patch of kangaroo grass (themeda australis), which is a rare remnant of the turpentine-ironbark forests that once covered the Inner West.
