Lacking, terrible and overpriced. I’ve been a regular at this place for years and have recently been informed the current owners are not the original owners which would explain the sharp decline in food quality and service. I invited a couple of friends expecting the original service and food and left the place half full and embarassed that I’d even suggested the place. Their chicken is a piece of salted dry breast without any other flavourings. The waitress refuses to speak to you when taking orders (regardless of language, even when speaking in fluent Korean) and insists you write your order in a plastic menu that is illegible, poorly designed and confusingly labelled. There were no prior instructions to fill this menu out when other wait staff attempted to take the order. BYO is labelled $4 on the menu but when calling in for reservations the staff stated it was free. Soups and stews lack any depth. No refill attempts made with side salads which is usually expected at this restaurant. To be fair it was a busy period as it was a weekend dinner but perhaps they should consider different measures or a different business if the common dinner grind is going to set them back.
Edited because apparently the staff is upset by my prior use of the term 'older lady'. Not my intention to be ageist, only differentiating since there might be other waitresses (how am I supposed to know how many staff you have?). More reply about this term than anything else in...
Read moreWe walked in for lunch on Friday 6th November 2020. Sat down to realised the menu was limited, either BBQ or soup based meal Korean style. We, being 2 of us, wanted to try a bit of BBQ and their soup based meals but due to their numerous restriction on food ordering we were unable. Every items has a minimum number to order and difficult for us to finish. We ended up ordering a Beef Bulgogi Pot, Beef and Veg Chilli Soup and a Spicy Shallot Salad. Venturing into the unknown, we waited with worried anticipation, will our lunch be a disappointment,....!!! Service was quick.....our food came after a short wait. Wow!! The soups were very tasty and satisfying. The Spicy Shallot Salad tasted excellent and fresh too. The service was good and friendly. They have too many restrictions and limitations on their small menu range which stops customers from trying different combination of dishes. We uses credit card payment for everything due to Covid 19 and we were let off for their minimum spend of $40 for credit card payments. The prices are reasonable and good service for a hearty and satisfying meal. Overall it was a happy and satisfying lunch and will be back should Korean style soup based meal craving hit...
Read moreMy friends and I returned back to Jo Ja Ryong following the easing of the Covid lockdowns. The service was good in terms of service as it was in the past. Food was decent.
The booking started at 7pm and we started eating around 7:15pm. Great. We ordered the Set Menu for all 5 of us. No problem. It was only until we noticed that we were already on our last plates of meat (things were being forced out quite quickly) at 7:45pm, and noticed a group forming outside waiting for our table that things started turning.
Though genial, the waitress ushered us to hurry up and get out for the next group. After we had only ate for 45 MINUTES! There was no disclaimer or notice at time of booking or throughout the meal that there was a time limit. Whilst understandable they would like business, mistreating us as existing guests so they could get their hands on the next lot is quite poor in any customer's book.
Perhaps if they set expectations better in future and implemented a time limit system, this whole review would have...
