This is my seventh stay at this hotel over the last 3 years. My need to go into the CBD staying in 5 star hotels for my business is no longer required. I have become more than comfortable & enjoy the lovely charm and lack of hustle Versus the stress and bustle of the CBD which can be harsh compared to the laid back village vibe of Strathfield. This beautiful and Charming Heritage Hotel is120 years old in a great location and just 50 metres from the station. Untold shops and great restaurants. The Rooms are practical comfy and always spotless. The second floor can be a challenge if you struggle with stairs as they are quite steep. The Staff are above and beyond genuinely caring and always so helpful. The vibe in the 3 bars is always friendly, inviting and in order. The beer garden is the star of the show for me. Under cover and quite 80% of the time. Great for catching up with my laptop , meals or a break from the room.
This Is all round a great hotel in a brilliant location with even better staff who go out of their way to help. Extremely rare in a budget hotel. It’s people who can make or break a business they have that part nailed. normally I don’t write reviews but this is an exception for me as it is ridiculously good value and has such a great vibe. Please take on board the hotel is heritage and 120 years old. The floors creek a bit and the train station is opposite. One flight of stairs are a bit steep, and not every station on the tv worked. Who cares show me a building 125 years old and you can pick faults with any thing if you’re that way inclined.. highly...
Read moreBooked a room for a night with my fiancé who was travelling down from Newcastle so we could see Kiss together. The bar service was good, bistro is a little pricey but acceptable, but man…the room we booked. There was a literal blood stain smeared on the wall next to the bed(I could literally see finger prints in it), my fiancé used to work in a morgue and confirmed it is 150% definitely blood, she estimated it looked like it had been there for about a week. I felt like I actually had to check the website to see if there was anything that said “we clean the hotel rooms”. Even after having paid for the room, being very tired from the show, and it being 12am with 2hr wait till the next train we decided we would rather sit awake on an all stops train to Newcastle than stay in that room because if they couldn’t even remove that off the wall we don’t trust for a second that an inch of the room has any better integrity. I don’t wish to disparage the staff, I’m positive the large majority of them aren’t responsible for a mess like this. But whoever was responsible for cleaning room 1 in prep for our stay on 26/8 should have a very, very...
Read moreCheap but still not worth it. Probably theworst bed I've ever slept in. The antique furniture in the halls and rooms would be a nice touch if the rooms and facilities themselves were not also "antique".
Good location right next to Strathfield station. Charming old pub but rooms are not updated, so all furniture and fittings are very old and worn.
The wiring of switches, lights and power points was visible in some places. So I paid close attention to the location of emergency exits.
I could feel every spring in the old saggy bed. And I couldn't stop rolling into the middle. Nor could I find a pillow I liked, from the many on the beds.
My room was clean except for the natural wear of many years.
Staff were friendly and helpful, but couldn't make up for the simply poor quality of accommodation.
Amenities in rooms are barely adequate. No microwave but the kettle, bar fridge, t.v and air conditioner worked fine. The bathroom tap dripped constantly.
The old creaky floor boards make it difficult to sleep. And it always sounds like someone is in your room. Maybe it's haunted?
I would prefer not to...
