Mayview Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Sydney

My husband and I had dinner here this evening as we were craving some good old Chinese food - we weren't disappointed!

If you want Chinese food that brings back childhood memories of eating at your local Chinese restaurant when you were a kid - this place does that. Decor is simple but that adds to the charm.

We ordered the mini spring rolls - I was expecting mini sized spring rolls that you'd get at a cocktail function but they were full size! The filling had lots of flavour, plenty of pork and they weren't greasy.

For mains we had a braised chicken chow mein, sweet & sour pork and steamed rice. The food was delicious! Servings really large, chicken chow mein had crispy noodles some had gone soft from the sauce but that made it more enjoyable.

My husband said it's the best sweet & sour pork he's had in a long time! Steamed rice came out in one of those old rice containers and it was full to the brim. We also had Chinese tea which was refreshing.

My only criticism and it's a small one is that there was no music playing or ambience - we were the only customers dining in (lots of takeaway orders) so a bit of background music would've been nice.

We'll definitely be back as we really enjoyed our meal and it wasn't expensive for the portions...

Ordered for pick up was told 40/45 minutes until ready for pick up I came to the store after that wait time to then wait another 30minutes… I’m a very patient and understanding person, but the amount of uber eats orders pumped out and sitting there for so long before my order was out, was a bit shocking as I was already waiting long over an hour after I called. There was uber eats drivers waiting outside and 10 others waiting with the same issue for their pick up orders. I’ve come to Mayview long before uber eats was added to their services and I’m highly disappointed with their priorities. The staff kept saying 5 minutes and I felt I’d rather them say 30minutes to avoid waiting outside constantly looking. I’ve never felt the need to complain about a wait time unless it was dishonest. Please keep in mind your customers willing to wait the time they are told. Under promise and over deliver in the future for the sake...

This place used to be the best Chinese in the whole of Sydney. I have had it 3 times in last 3 months and everytime it is so disappointing. I am talking had it once a week for years and it was so good Before covid. I am sure they have a new chef or owner behind the scene who is cutting corners and not producing the same great quality they used to have.

Very bummed as it is close by but most likely will not go back. Not a pleasant tasting experience and menu has changed as I order the same dishes but taste is gone and ingredients are not as plentiful as they were.
