You know those places that always look busy when you pass, and you can't work out why? That's what got me here...the first time I passed and looked at the display, I was as surprised as a rabbi at Studio 54, 1978. The display cabinet had the most basic and low end croissants and sandwiches. I returned, determined to find out why this place ticks boxes. The display was the same. So I sat down. It was 220pm. Apparently, I'd better order, coz the intruders at 225 were told "we close at 3, so it's take away only now." Confused, I ordered from a menu that spans the globe, though in a kind of weird way...anyway, the dish that appeared explained a lot. The chicken fajita bowl was as good lookin as a calendar pin up, and about as old school. Still, the flavours were hone made, but in better than average way. The portion size was very large, and the attention to balance and detail pretty on point. As was the chai. No awards here, and the menu is definitely the way to go here. In that sense, this place is no longer a mystery. It the same reasons old school coffee shops were always a hit. Big portions of reliably cooked, familiar foods, if...
Read moreThe first few visits to this cafe to eat in were generally good. 9/10 for food, 7/10 for service. The reason for the low star rating is because on the last few eat in visits, the music has been at a volume more appropriate to a funky clothing store. The songs are cut off, skipped and replayed until one of the staff members finds one they like, and one of the waitresses is treating the place like a personal karaoke bar . Its great to have a fun working environment, and I think the owners would agree, not at the expense of the customers intention to relax and unwind, and being served in a timely manner and not having to yell their orders. Staff yelling out and priorotisong tomfoolery over making coffes for takeaway just make me not want to come here, as I cant just have a nice relaxing efficient and pleasant visit. I usually dont want to complain or be negative, but this cafe has a lot of good things going for it. Just needs some professionalism injected back into it. And the seating out the front, the chairs are so low and tiny surface ares, they are at risk of dissapearing...
Read moreMeidys Cafe never disappoints. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with smiles and warm hellos. The vibes are always happy, and the service is nothing short of perfect. You can’t go wrong with any of the drinks or food items so I encourage you to try everything and be sure to come back for more! Today I was lucky enough to try the new Matcha Coconut Chia Pudding. From the minute I saw it, with its beautiful green colour and mouthwatering toppings, I knew I had to get it. After the first bite, all I could say was “wow.” It was the perfect sweetness level, and the crunch of the cacao nibs matched with the tartness of the goji berries was just magical. This might just be my new favourite menu item! Regardless, come to Meidy’s for the best...
