Mekong Merchant Avalon — Restaurant in Sydney

Mekong's food is delicious and always consistent, and the regular staff are lovely and remembered my lunch order consistently when I was working in Avalon consistently. However, I witnessed between 1030-1100 on 06/06/2025 that who I thought was just a random casual who unenthusiastically runs the register occasionally and was always hungover is actually likely an abusive manager or owner! Didn't care to get his name but he's the white guy, lol. The EFTPOS machine wasn't working and he stormed in, immediately started shouting at the staff and blaming them, practically throwing crap around the place and also shouting at someone on the phone. That is for one completely unacceptable and for two to do literally right in front of a customer? Anyway, great service from the (presumably) Vietnamese staff who keep the place running at all times and make delicious food and I hope that man reads this because he knows...

We have been coming here for years, despite the fact that the prices seem to hike up every week (started at 14$ for a salad bowl, now we are at 21.5$). The food is good and fresh and usually the service is good, too. I had an unpleasant experience today, my order was misunderstood (we were served two Banh Mi and not the two salads that we ordered). I asked to have the salads instead ( of course I paid the difference). I don’t expect an apologie, but I also don’t expect to get a lecture in better communication and a scolding. 3.5 stars. Inside is a really nice restaurant and the layout is thought out very well. The staff were very friendly and the place definitely had an authentic vibe out it. I had the banh Mi, which I thought for what was there it was very good standard, the ingredients were very fresh and it had alot of taste to it.
