We didn’t leave Sydney till about 1 p.m. today. With a stop to the Baha’i temple en route it meant it was about 2:30 p.m. when we started looking for some lunch! 🤤 Spotted Oceana Traders shop on the opposite side of the road to where we parked, showed Maria,.. she said fine so we ordered a seafood lunch. Grilled flathead fillets, a junk of Coral trout & we shared a Snapper pie & a single serve of chips. (Huge & Blake kindly boxed the surplus chips for us to have later!) As it turns out, the excellent snapper pie we had is made by OT on the premises so we grabbed a large frozen salmon pie to enjoy later. We were the only eat in customers as we were after the lunchtime rush so we were ably served by Blake who looked after us in between preparing for the evening rush & yelling for help with the take away customers who kept trickling into the shop. We left fuelled up & ready to walk off lunch & tackle Barrenjoey Lighthouse,…. We did get to the foot of the hill but being winter it was too late so we contented ourselves with glimpses of the winter sunset & looped around Palm Beach & headed home. Great day, great late seafood lunch &...
Read moreAbsolutely loved this place! Checked out this place because Google said it had oysters. It's not a very big place, but it had 3 tables for patrons who wanted to eat in, like we did. Fresh food on display included a variety of fish and of course, oysters. While we were enjoying our meals, there were continuous streams of walk in customers, some taking away cooked meals, but most bought the fresh seafood. We ordered the Crumbed Barramundi and Crumbed Cod dishes, both came with fries and salad. I actually ordered the Crumbed Prawns, but it was probably miscommunicated and I got the cod instead, which was very good too, so no complaints there. Everything was made and crumbed inhouse, and they were very fresh. Loved the homemade beer battered fries too. Had half a dozen oysters, which were lovely and creamy. All food came up to $46. The only thing I struggled with a little, is that the opened door of the restaurant let the chilly draft in, and I was already freezing after the whale watching cruise I was on. But other than that, two thumbs up and I highly recommend this place. Service...
Read moreWow! I have been visiting Avalon for many years and often walked past, but never tried this place. I read a review that said it was the best fish and chips in the area and boy, was that true. Hand cut chips (potato or sweet potato) large choice of fish, battered or grilled, what looked like homemade tartare, and fresh crunchy salad on the side. Mum and I shared battered flathead and chips and it was a very decent serving for a very reasonable price. So fresh and tasty with light, crispy batter and no ‘rancid oil taste’ that you get with some fish & chip places. I noticed they also do fish burgers, fish tacos, and the usual range of cooked seafoods, plus fresh fish, oysters, sashimi, smoked salmon, a range of sauces, drinks and gourmet ice-cream. Although small, the shop was bright and clean and there were a couple of tables to sit inside and eat. Friendly staff and quick service along with great food means we’ll be...
