Milkbar at the Lookout is exactly what you want beside a world class view, fast, friendly and unfussy. After a lap of Echo Point we ducked in for something warm and quick, and the place had that pleasant hum of hikers, families and photographers comparing shots while the coffee machine kept a steady rhythm. Big windows pull in the Blue Mountains light and there are a handful of outdoor tables that catch the breeze from the valley. You order at the counter, grab a number and the food follows faster than you expect for such a busy spot.

The menu leans classic and comforting, which makes sense when you have just climbed a few stairs. A bacon and egg roll arrived on a soft bun with a swipe of relish that actually tasted of tomatoes rather than sugar, and the chips came hot, crisp and properly salted. We shared a chicken schnitzel burger stacked with lettuce and pickles that stayed neat in the hands, plus a side of gravy that was far better than it needed to be. Coffee landed smooth and strong, and the milkshakes are old school thick in the best way. There are a couple of easy vegetarian options and dairy alternatives for drinks, so everyone in our group found something without negotiating.

Service is cheerful even when the line reaches the door. Staff check on sauces, offer water without prompting and keep tables turning with quick wipes between crowds. Prices sit where you would expect for a prime lookout location, yet portions are solid and the convenience is hard to beat. My tip is to go early or late, nab a table outside if the wind is calm, and linger over a hot drink while the light shifts on the cliffs. It is a simple formula done well and it rounds out the Echo Point...

Do they read their reviews and make any changes at all? Obviously not. Reviews from a year ago are no different from now. They couldn't run a chook raffle if they tried. Overpriced and utterly disorganised. Went there yesterday. Ordered 5 drinks and a box of chips. She couldn't understand our order, really how hard was it. Took me 3 goes of asking are there 5 drinks included and finally getting it right. Buzzer goes off get the coffees but nothing else. My grandkids stood for 20 minutes asking for their drinks which by that time we had a small box of cold chips that cost $16. I was so cranky I slammed the chips on the bench and said you can now replace them with a full box for starters and make them hot. They did do that and gave me a free muffin to stay sorry but really. In a place that is a hot spot for tourists who come from all over the world you would think we could get a Cafe that can handle 5 drinks and a box of hot value for money chips in less than 40 minutes. Australia we really need to lift our game and do better. Get some people to run that cafe that have some brains or READ YOUR BAD REVIEWS AND PUT THE...

Dreadful service. Literally one of the slowest places I have ever had the misfortune of attending. With very few people here on a 2 degree and extremely windy Sunday morning we waited over a half hour for EGGS ON TOAST. I would seriously advise you to just not bother with this place. Do yourself a favour and get your food from one of the many and wonderful options just up the road in the main street. If you're silly enough to buy from them anyway after reading these reviews also be aware that their fruit juices are 60% ice cubes. I work as a professional DJ and couldn't believe how loud the music was also. Couldn't hear my son speaking to me despite sitting directly opposite. The cutlery was disposable wood and not for purpose. Eggs were undercooked a super runny despite waiting well over half an hour for them. Son's waffles were "like rocks" according to him. Don't even get me started on the bathroom there. Recommend going to Scenic World and eating...

Honestly the worst cafe I’ve been to.. firstly I wanted to order eggs on toast, I asked for scrambled to which they told me “cannot do today sorry”. I decided to go for the avocado on sourdough instead… biggest waste of $25, firstly the bread was NOT sourdough tasted like cheap roll cut in half, the eggs weren’t cooked & to top it off they told me I had to use takeaway cardboard knife and fork?! I told them there is absolutely no way I was, so the waiter walked over to the bar appearing so hassled by me, grabbed me a silver knife and fork and said “we are a takeaway cafe so we don’t give out silver cutlery & then proceeded to hand them to me saying “we need these back” as if I would run off with a knife and fork, laughable at this stage. Food was so disgusting, the only good thing about this place is the view. Do not waste your time or money. The staff were young and rude as well. Terrible

I had an incredibly frustrating experience at this café. After waiting for half an hour without any sign of our food, we got to know that the cook had never received our order. When we asked for a refund, a man with long hair behind the counter was unprofessional and dismissive, displaying a lot of attitude and ignoring our requests. To make matters worse, despite ordering only vegetarian food due to dietary restrictions, we were served a ham croissant, which clearly belonged to someone else. The entire experience was marred by poor customer service and a lack of attention to our needs. I won't be returning to this café.
