Today, I may have had my last visit to mixtape forever. The service from the bloke wearing a beanie with full beard was horrendous. Here's why: At first he asked the type of beers I liked, generally IPAs is what I said. He then pointed out a few IPAs on tap available. I asked if the mixtape one was more a West coast style and he said yeah, and offered me a tasting. That's cool and very normal to have a taster in the hundreds of breweries I've visited in the past. He asked how it was, and I said it was probably too West coast for my liking, he then asked what I meant by too West coast, well for me it was the pine flavour. He then said the other 2 IPAs are even more piney, and recommended the pilsner. I thought sure I'll try a small taster given I told him my flavour palate I trusted he would take this into account... Nope, it wasn't for me. He then proceeded to recommend other "easy drinks to start with" like pale ale and an amber ale - mind you I already told him I'm not looking for easy drinks as I already had some gin earlier. I then asked to try a bit of the red IPA, here is where it went horribly wrong. He gave the deepest sigh as I asked for it and then followed it up with the rudest statement: "at this rate you'll be tasting a whole glass of beer". Wow. Am I overreacting or is this rude af? Mind you each taster was around 10-15ml, with 3 tasters this is hardly getting to a whole glass. Thankfully the red IPA was to my palate so I ordered a glass, and wouldn't need to put up with the attitude given by this particular staff member. I must add there wasn't anyone waiting after me so it's not like they were super busy or anything. Providing tasters at breweries is very common. If that's not the case at this brewery then please say so at the start. It was the staff member that offered the first tasting. Also having been here a few times previously I've always been served with courtesy with no attitude received. I know not all staff is like this guy but unfortunately this experience really was...
Read moreHad a great time at Mixtape Brewing & Bar necking their ‘Mangose’ Mango Sour Mango Gose ($6.50/middy) for the launch of the Inner West Ale Trail. Being greeted with a Willie the Boatman Albo pale ale proved a portent sign for what was to unfold. Not only did I get to get on the beers with our Prime Minister Anthony Albanese (who is also the local member) I got to sample craft beers from a range of different local brewers. Some like Wayward Brewing Company and Batch Brewing Company were very familiar—Pash the Magic Dragon remains a firm favourite—while others like Pickled Monkey Brewing were new to me.
Using NSW Government monies from the “Night Mayor” (24-hour Economy Commissioner) Michael Rodrigues, this bunch of local craft beer venues are getting educated and resourced to work with live musicians to expand and improve their (already great) offerings across the Inner West Council area. Hopefully it will give even more people a reason to ask stop and ask why would you drink a mainstream beer when you can support a small,...
Read moreI loved the SG and I love mixtape, but ffs not again. All I wanted was something to eat so I can hold my alcohol.
Respectfully, get a new supplier for your gluten free pizza bases, and maybe get less obnoxious kitchen staff.
When you told me "order something else there's heaps of other options" that was pretty rude.
You continued mouthing off at me till you finally looked at the menu and admitted - there aren't any other options. Look mate if there was other food nearby I'd order it.
Don't charge +$3 extra for delicious toppings on raw dough, then tell me I'm doing it wrong.
Pity, your gluten free stout (twobays) is...
