We were in Freshwater for a day out and spotted Mrs Jones the Baker on the corner of Moore Road. The bright neon light and window of baked goods enticed us in further. This bakery/café has a window full of all their delectable offerings, that you will find it hard to choose.
They sell artisan breads, cakes, pastries, gelato and coffee. From the artisan bread range, there’s white sourdough, soy linseed, wholemeal, rye sourdough, baguettes, fruit loaf and more.
If you’re after a pastry to eat in or on the go, why not grab yourself a cinnamon brioche, snail, cinnamon twist, pain au chocolat, raspberry brioche, pear and strawberry danish, apple danish, almond croissant amongst the many on offer. We tried the light and tasty quinoa and apple slice – though it seemed more raisin and berry than apple. Savoury pastries are available too, such as sausage rolls, pies, beef pies and quiches.
For a sweet treat, there’s so many, featuring carrot cake, raspberry brownies,), caramel coconut slice, pear and raspberry frangipane tart slice, lemon drizzle cakes, salted caramel donuts and cruffins, chocolate donuts and cruffins. You can also order fancy patisserie cakes such as salted caramel tarts, lemon meringue tarts and chocolate eclairs just to name a few. They sell mini versions if you’re just after a small treat or whole cakes for a celebration.
There’s stores in Waringah Mall, Freshwater and Frenchs Forest, we visited the Freshwater location. They use high quality, organic base ingredients with no artificial additives and they’ve also got gluten, dairy and nut free as well as vegan and low sugar...
Read moreIts hard to walk past this window without stopping as its chock full with perfectly presented baked treats. Once you venture inside you will realise that taste matches the presentation. I have tried most of the selection since they opened and its hard to fault anything. A solid selection of donuts - if I had to pick a favourite it would be raspberry. The Cinnibuns are always fresh and perfect as they are or even more delicious if heated so the icing melts a little. There is a great selection of fresh bread and a few pies and sausage rolls - try the pork and onion. So sweet, moist and delicious. If you make it past the sweet treats, they also have a selection of good gelato. The staff are always smiling and happy to help with selection. The coffee is smooth and easy drinking so Mrs Jones is the perfect spot for a mid morning treat or late arvo hideaway...
Read moreThere are bakeries which exist in your suburb to supply your daily bread, or to give you something sweet on the way to the bus in the morning. There are also bakeries which you drive clear across town to visit because they are outstanding .
This is definitely the latter.
We are in the enviable position of living within walking distance to Mr Jones. Almost every weekend we are here, and have tried almost everything. To top it off there is also home-made gelato, which they learnt from the guys at Cow and Moon in the Inner West (also noted as a foodie destination).
Their Eccles cakes are amazing and taste like Christmas, their filled doughnuts are amazing and never fail to please, and their coffee is also divine.
If you like sweet treats, YOU MUST VISIT! oh, and bring your swimmers when its warmer too, it's a 5 min walk...
