Stowaway Bar — Restaurant in Sydney

We liked this place! A funky mix of al fresco dining with indoors subdued lighting and some Victorian style furniture and decorations. We sat on the balcony which was lovely and not too noisy. On Thursday nights the Classic ( only) cocktails are $12 albeit a bit on the small side . You can’t order food or even drinks from a person whilst sitting at your table which is a bit of a pain - you either do it via a phone scan or you go up to the bar and wait. They do bring the food out to you though and it was promptly delivered. We had prawn sang Choy bow, fish tacos and salt and pepper calamari. Just had lunch at Stowaway. Boy has this place gone downhill. The fact there was only 3 people in there for lunch on a rainy Saturday should’ve rung the warning bells. First they just forgot about my wife’s Margarita which turned out to be not worth the wait. A choice of one zero alcohol beer was also pretty ordinary. When the food arrived it was mostly fried and overcooked. The need to turf their cook and employ a chef because what he is turning out is unacceptable. Such a shame as it used to be a favorite. Lovely bar, enjoyed some great drinks, being the shiraz gin and tonic which was beautiful and the followed it up with a mothers milk wine shiraz which was a lovely full bodied red. For food, as had the oysters which we enjoyed with the sauce and lemons the prawn tacos with mango were amazing and i would say the highlight of the meal. The buffalo’s wings were amazing brilliantly seasoned and cooked. The rosemary salted fries were delicious and the portion size was generous.
