New Settimo Newtown — Restaurant in Sydney

Disappointing. VERY slow service... Bruschetta is paltry. Minimal attention given. Since moving, they seem to have dropped off their level of quality.

Waited 10 minutes from being seated just to be looked at and given menus (no drinks orders). They all kept walking past us without looking at our table! Waited another +25 minutes to be given water / order drinks and food (by the way - BYO ONLY) Waited +35 minutes for the 1 entree the table had ordered Waited +25 minutes for the mains Waited +10 minutes for food corrections (more on that below) Ate our meals in 15 minutes and left straight away since we had not anticipated to have to stay for THAT long. TOTAL for a small meal for 3 people = 2 hrs (WAY too long)

The pasta was good. The pizza was burnt underneath, but still under-cooked on top.

The 'Bruschetta' they do is a couple of pieces of tomato soaked in oil with a dab of garlic, placed onto dry stale toast. The amount of tomato was so small, it was laughable. There was nowhere near enough tomato compared to bread. The bread was stale. We sent the bruschetta back to the kitchen to get a bit more topping (since we asked for the bruschetta as a main), and lo and behold - we had to wait another 10 minutes!

While we were waiting, two other families cancelled their orders and left due to waiting way too long for their food. They both said they would not be coming back.

I expected much more from this place. I won't be coming...

As a local, I can confidently say New Settimo Newtown is one of my favorite dining spots in the heart of King Street, Newtown. I had the pleasure of eating here just before flying to Europe, and even after my travels, it’s the first place I crave upon returning to Sydney!

Ambiance: The atmosphere is vibrant yet cozy, making it perfect for a casual dinner or a special night out. The decor strikes a lovely balance between modern and welcoming, enhancing the overall dining experience.

Food: The menu is a delightful mix of flavors that never disappoints. Their pasta dishes are standout options—cooked to perfection and accompanied by rich, flavorful sauces. Each dish reflects a commitment to quality ingredients and authentic preparation.

Service: The staff at New Settimo are always friendly and attentive. They know the menu inside out and are eager to recommend their favorites, which adds a personal touch to your dining experience.

Overall Experience: If you're looking for an exceptional meal in Newtown, New Settimo Newtown should be at the top of your list. This was exactly what I needed after a hectic week at work...I was looking forward to a hearty plate of pasta and this chief delivered...but wait there's more!!!...this restaurant has class but is not intimidating... The staff are professional but felt like family (friendly but not overpowering and knew a smile wouldn't crack their face !).. The food was beautiful (aroma, presentation, portions & most importantly taste) ... The wine complimented our meal superbly! We stayed for ages while the staff cleaned up around us and we hardly noticed (they didn't clear our table & they didn't once indicate they wanted to go home). When we asked for the bill we were pleasantly surprised this yummy food, in this relaxing environment, with lovely people was under $90.00 (2 people, entree each, main meal each, glass of wine each, large bottle of sparkling mineral water, coffee each) what great value!
