This is a very popular place for Sri Lankan takeaway. We arrived 6pm and there was a queue of about 12 people!!
There are tables on footpath you can eat at but we went inside to the restaurant they also operate. You pay a few dollars more per dish, but the place was empty the whole time we were there. Service was very friendly and minimal wait time as its already made and in the window.
We ordered dosai which is a thin pancake in South Indian cuisine made from a fermented batter of ground black lentils and rice
Goat curry and Biriyani with butter chicken. The absolute stand out was Goat curry which i was trying for the first time. It was so tasty! The butter chicken wasn't bad, but the Biriyani was not like what I think of when I say Biriyani, which is more clove flavoured. I am no expert so I wont comment just assume there is a lot of difference between Indian Biriyani and Sri Lankan.
I would return...to get best value, I would get take away and sit on street. I would avoid arrival at peak time of 6pm maybe 7.30pm - as when we left, there was no line. I would get goat curry again.
Parking was easy on the street with lots of spots and minimal competition.
Update
Came back and got 1* Lamb and 3 * Vegetable for $15. I chose ochra, paneer and lamb. It was great flavour and was good value, which is hard to find these days. Paneer is more expensive than others so was Only allowed 2 other vegetable curries but was still flavourful and filling.
One suggestion would be to have labels on curries as it is just a plethora of curries with no way to...

This place operates like a well-oiled machine, a powerhouse of a small business offering great food at great value to the area. Decent street parking and within walking distance from the train station.
I have almost zero knowledge about the food and culture - I just love bread in all its forms and enjoy a good curry - but I have loved it every meal I've gotten from here.
Their vadai (savoury, donut-shaped, at the front window) is so deliciously soft and fluffy inside, lightly crispy on the outside.
The parotta is consistently great: buy a couple in a meal with your choice of curries/sauces. My go-to choice of curries include the okra, chickpea and boneless chicken. Goat curry is flavourful for those who like gamey meat.
I also accidentally bought a chilli bhaji and was pleasantly surprised: it's a green chilli (not too spicy) deep-fried in soft thin batter, slightly crispy, not overly greasy.
My only criticism is provide more signs to label your food for those who aren't familiar, though the staff will answer all your...
Read moreNew Shakti has been my go-to spot for the past eight years, and it has never disappointed. What started as a simple takeaway joint has now grown into a full-fledged restaurant, yet the taste remains just as authentic and delicious as it was years ago. Their consistency in flavor and quality is truly commendable.
Their hot-selling items include all varieties of dosa and vada, but honestly, everything on the menu is worth trying. The snacks are equally delightful, offering a perfect blend of crispiness and flavor. My personal favorites, and the reason I keep returning, are the Masala Dosa and Lemon Rice. The dosa is always perfectly crispy with a well-spiced potato filling, and the Lemon Rice has the ideal balance of tangy and savory flavors.
The food quality, taste, and service make New Shakti a must-visit for South Indian cuisine lovers. Whether you choose to dine in or take away, you can always expect freshly prepared, flavorful dishes. For me, it’s a solid 10/10, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for authentic South...
