Northbridge Hotel — Restaurant in Sydney

I was working locally and googled for a pub with a lunch special and this appeared in the search. I'm a really hard task master but I asked the bar person about the food and she highly recommended it and I was impressed. I indulged with a beer and steak for under $30. Hard to find a clean table so I sat at one that was filthy but as far away from a noisy TV screen as possible. Clearly this place caters to every sports fan possible so atmosphere was not conducive to lunch or a decent conversation. Thankfully, the waitress eventually came and cleared the table. I eat my steak blue and it is rarely cooked right. This place did a pretty good job - closer to rare but blue in parts. Oil was clean so chips tasted great. Salad could have been tossed with the dressing or had a bit more dressing - it was mixed leaf, tomato and cucumber with the dressing just drizzled across the top, so a bit 'dry'. Plate could have been warmed beforehand so the steak was hotter by the time it came to the table - it sat on the warming counter for a while before the waitress picked it up, she walked towards my table then turned around, went back to the counter [I think to get a steak knife] and finally brought it to the table. So, double whammy on not keeping the temperature of the meal 'up there'. The other thing was that it took a loooong time to receive the food. I took my time with my beer and water but was more than half finished by the time the meal arrived - there were two in the kitchen, they weren't busy and to cook and plate a blue steak is about a 6-8 minute turnaround. The people beside me, who ordered at least 25 minutes after I did, got their food within 5 minutes of my getting mine. Go figure! I wouldn't be happy to pay the regular price for this meal but, as a lunch special it...

Dinner was so good, we came back the next day for lunch! Saturdays dinner was flathead fish n chips - the fish was nice and fresh and the batter had a little bit of dill added to it which was a lovely touch... also a good man sized serving which i loved....my wife had a tuna steak salad which was surprisingly good... so good I found myself eating a good portion of it too. The next day we had marvelous Sunday beef roast with Yorkshire puddings. Edit: I just tried the scotch fillet steak sandwich... Best I've ever had in my life!!! Delicious artisan sourdough with tender scotch fillet steak, cheese, tomato, roquet - and beetroot (lovely touch) with a delicious sauce... its a must try!!! Thank god we gave this lovely hotel/restaurant a 2nd chance! We first started going to the Northbridge Hotel about 4 years ago, but food/service went down hill over time. Not now! An obvious change of chef/staff! Valentines Day we generally go to 5* harbour front dining, this year it was the Northbridge! Two Wednesday's on a run have not disappointed us. Excellent, varied menu that caters for any and everyone with dishes that truly challenge your mind and burst with flavour.
