Omeio Artisanal Deli — Restaurant in Sydney

I had pleasure having lunch at this small deli at Paddington the other day with gorgeous Sydney iconic sunshine. It’s a small corner shop selling homemade bread, deli products and simple drinks. Outdoor setting is on the footpath, just taking some space from pedestrians, which doesn’t bother me.

Staff was helpful and friendly, lots of suggestions and good explanation!

I ordered baguette sandwich and a gigantic cookie, which I paid Paddington price. Baguette had good chewy crumb and amazing crust, which I loved. But the inside - was very small…4 pieces of hamon, 2 slices of cheese and a tablespoon of sauerkraut for half baguette, which is not special unfortunately. I should emphasise the Baguette saved it all! The cookie was just ordinary.. perhaps less salt will do better. Almond chai latte was ok, chai was leaf tea thanks god, but need to steep more tea for longer for more flavour, or let the customer do it. However, it is like 7/10, I had worse.

Overall I’d go back for bread perhaps, but not for lunch. It’s just great to try new cafes and restaurants. But we have a sourdough bakery with more options around the corner as well… well it will be...

The food was amazing. However the customer service levels and overall customer experience requires attention. I agree with the other reviews that the lady behind the counter is abrupt, lacks warmth and provides minimal customer service. It's to the point where you feel like you can't make simple requests. She picked up the wrong pastry even though friend was very clear. We didn't realise the mistake until it was heated and served. Given the poor customer service we decided against pulling her up on it. Her appalling demeanour meant that we prefered awkwardly cutting our cake slice in two with a fork rather than ask for it to be done. This is by far my favourite coffee joint. The service is incredible - Harry (my favourite), Niko and all the ladies are always happy and helpful. The food is IMMACULATE. The salad are all top notch - the Niçoise is my personal favourite. Their pastries are always fresh. I love their peanut butter and honey (cinnamon infused) toast - MUST TRY if you like peanut butter. I’m not a big coffee drinker but their coffee is one that I would have.
