We loved our dinner last night at Paddington Fish & Chips - very happy to have it as an easy local.
As I was dining with my six-year old, we shared the flathead battered. If I was ordering for myself I would have opted for grilled but the battered was actually excellent - light and delicious! We added chips (for a very reasonable $5) and the iceberg and cucumber salad, which was crunchy and fresh with a lovely dressing.
The serving size of the fish was exceptionally generous. In fact, we could have had just that for the two of us, but I also ordered the fried school prawns. Unfortunately I had to forgo the spice because of the six-year old. Next time…
The chef was so friendly and accommodating, the fit out - although very similar to the predecessor - now has an easy, breezy beachside feel to it, and the food was fantastic.
The three main highlights for me over the previous restaurant in this spot are that they take cards (good-god it was frustrating having to always have cash and probably drove us elsewhere), they are licensed and have a good selection of wines and they have decent salads.
Will definitely be a regular easy, early family dinner for us. And looking forward to trying the granitas one sunny afternoon. And the prawn roll actually - that...
Read moreThis is a new restaurant replacing an old, brilliant establishment (which has now moved to Victoria street just a 2 minute walk away), but as a local I was certainly keen to try it! Went in and was not acknowledged by any of the workers.. okay that’s fine, I’ll wait patiently. A few minutes later a gentleman (presumably one of the owners) greets with a strained grunt; I try order the basic fish and chips (which comes separately) and was bluntly told “sold out..”, that’s fine but I would prefer not to have to be on the receiving end of your tiredness and stress. If you’re a new business you should treat all customers exceptionally well and go above and beyond with every interaction. I might try this business again in the future when they learn some manners, until then I’ll stick to other shop I know is reliable...
Read moreIt had been a while since having Fish & Chips in the Paddington area, so it was quite exciting to see a local restaurant open up
Was perfect summer Friday balmy evening weather dinner. We had our dog out in the outside dining tables and the staff were very accommodating of it.
The food was excellent, the thick chips were hot, fresh & tasty. The octopus & squid components weren't greasy, and as someone who's a bit spooked by strong fishy flavours of some seafoods I really enjoyed the swordfish and how fresh & soft it was.
They won over a non seafood fan with some seafood that wasn't just my boring staple of the battered fish (which was also excellent, as was the Schnitzeld fish burger)
I didn't leave with the grease sweats as I often do from fish & chips so I will definitely be making a...
