This was the worst lunch we ever had. *The management were rude and arrogant. *Perfect if you like bad service. *What a joke of an establishment. *Terrible Experience at The Village Inn Paddington
Above are some, y'know, actual reviews.
Interesting take to have ‘done’ a vox pop with patrons a few hours before you actually opened for the day, but sure! Inclusion of ages an interesting touch too.
And after giving all that personal info of other 'people', you will no doubt be sure to use your real full name, or if you are employed by the VILLAGE INN or PINK PICKLE? I'll wait...
No way you will be shy all of a sudden after being so chatty...
EDIT - Interesting that you have edited your own response from all of seven months ago deleting some of your previous comments. My balanced review - which commences with no less than three compliments - remains unchanged except for a typo edit.
For a customer facing business, such a delayed edit and repost of your own now slightly passive aggressive comments sits on a spectrum that objectively starts at bit weird and ends at bit fixated. The fact your post was made at 8pm on a Friday (hmm) only further highlights the oddness.
But you are correct about one thing. Sometimes it is indeed the individual, and your response/s reflect the manner and tone of management and underlines the kind of place that you apparently are. Or is it perhaps a rogue employer has got hold of the log-in because it’s hard to imagine a senior person would make such ongoing commentary – not to mention pushing this review to the top of the latest list – one that reflects so poorly on the venue.
EDIT - Review changed from three starts to one star based on manager's (?) response. "Poor selection of beers" and 'no one watching' was the observation. If you can't understand the basics of a balanced review there is no chance for improvement. So much for the self-styled "best pub in Paddington".
Great bones of a pub, mostly good food and some quality staff. BUT could easily be improved. Poor selection of beers on tap (almostly entirely the big commercial products), not enough non-meat options on the menu and worst of all the atmosphere sullied by the footy being on almost everywhere you looked yet not a single person watching other than...
Read moreI was on my way home walking up Oxford Street just as night had fallen. As I was waiting at the crossing, I turned my head to the right and saw what looked like a romantic village you might imagine in your head. What caught my eye was the glow of lights coming from what looked like a quaint little bar. I hesitated at first but I was drawn by my curiosity to see what was so appealing about this little bar. My greeting was a sandwich board telling me, 'kitchen open'. Always a good start. But those lights kept drawing me in. They added a warmth, atmosphere & charm to this bar. I was already in love with this place the moment I walked through the doors. The Village Inn was not packed, but it had enough people sitting in the bar to tell me it is a favourite among a few good regular, local customers. There was enough clientele going in & out of the bar at different times. Not having crowds of peoole in the bar only added to the charm of the place. I was excited by my find in this bar. There is a whole other seating area upstairs and I was adviced to check upstairs out, by the bar tender., To which I will do the next time I visit. The bar staff were friendly & welcoming. Not to mention patient from my indecision of what beer to choose. I was happy to see beers on tap I had never tried before, 'when in Rome'. The beer was delicious. Glad I picked the right one. The menu was a good variety without being too over price for a boutique bar. Look to spend a minimum of $9 for snacks, $15-$20 for burgers & main upto $30. I chose the dips with fried bread. For $12, I think it was reasonable in price and it had finese in it's presentation. My only criticism is, a combo of the fresh bread & fried bread would be better served together. The oil dip and fried bread together becomes heavy on the gut & palete. The beetroot dip was devine. I also loved the sweet pickle dip. It was complimented nicely by the fried bread, adding texture to the palette. I will be visiting The Village Inn again. Next time I want to check it out for lunch. And I will be taking a friend next time. This is a place you want to share with a friend. As well as a nice stop for a...

I visited The Village Inn Paddington on the evening of the 23rd of January 2025 for trivia night. While the atmosphere of the trivia was fun and engaging, my experience with the food completely ruined the night.
I ordered the Wagyu burger and fries, expecting a quality meal, but what I got was far from it. The burger patty tasted off, as if the meat was not fresh, and had a strange, unpleasant flavor. I tried to ignore it at the time, but it became clear later that it was a mistake. The fries were equally disappointing—drenched in grease, over-fried to the point where there was more crunchy burnt crust than actual potato. They were so greasy and heavy that I couldn’t even finish them.
Unfortunately, the worst part came a few hours later. After eating, I began to feel incredibly nauseous. Soon after, I was violently sick, spending the rest of the evening in the bathroom. I hadn’t eaten anything for 5 hours prior to dining here, so there’s no doubt that this meal caused my food poisoning.
If you’re looking for a place to enjoy your night, I highly recommend staying far away from this venue. However, if you’d like to ruin your evening and poison yourself, then by all means, this is the place to go.
I would never return to this establishment and strongly urge others to avoid it. A meal here isn’t worth the risk to...
