THIS PHO RESTAURANT IS OLDER THAN ME! Pho 54, Cabramatta
There's lots of lists out there. The best phở in Sydney. The best phở in Cabramatta. At the end of the day, everyone likes what they like, everyone has a different tastebud, and really we should just get out there and enjoy as much of this beautiful bowl of Vietnamese noodle soup as we can. Especially when it's a place with as rich of a history as Pho 54 in Cabramatta. An OG. An institution. Ask any Cabra local and they'll know Pho 51. Frankly, we're lucky to be spoilt for choice in this beautiful city of ours, but who knows how much longer places like Pho 54 will be around for? They've already qot decades on their back.
A step inside here takes you back 30 odd years. The decor has hardly changed much. The signage is still somewhat original. The paint on the walls and ceiling have served their time. The fluorescent lights arc still slightly on the dimmer end, just like I remember it. The restaurant runs off two large soup pots in a small kitchen. Once upon a timel saw the steaming pots with my own eyes. Beautiful. The door quickly shuts again. They wouldn't let me take a pic of the pots when I asked think they had people stealing recipes back in the day and it scarred them. Gotta respect that.
The pho here for me is above average and actually a very home-style taste. The soup has a deep flavour, albiet not over the top. The noodles are cooked just right, and the meat portion is OK too. The portion is generous, and at $16 for the special it's certainly on the cheaper end of what you can find in today's inflationary landscape. 30 years and they're still going strong. Make of it what you will, but Pho 54 hits the spot and it's great to...
Read moreIm not exaggerating when i say, i have been coming here my whole life, grew up in Cabramatta, and this place is by far the best pho ive ever had (like another review mentions, the only other better pho ive had would have to be in Vietnam itself), ive tried many other places but you honestly cant get better pho then from a place that dedicates itself to pho as the main dish on their list and every other dish is there as a filler when you are up for some rice dish instead (which is also really good).
The service is great, everyone is bubbly. Price is decent, and yes they have a large and small bowl, best ask for a large bowl if you're an eater and wanna get that hang over out of your system. They are pretty old school, no eftpos but come on looking at that place from the outside you should have expected it.
Small, but cozy, too cozy because of little ventilation but its great...
Read moreFirst time going to Cabramatta from Northen Beaches, this area is like another city in NSW. I tried their pho from many videos in YT and Instagram, the seasoning is really penetrated to the noodle and it's not overcooked like many other pho in CBD, they gave us so many toppings like tripe, meatballs, brisket and more.
The brisket is very fatty and delicate, it can melt in your tongue, and they select a good meatballs from the supplier, not too soft and there's still a tendon in it.
In this photo, the noodle was covered by the sliced onion, they also gave us a extra seasoning, I believe this is a sa tế sauce.
For me personally, it is the best to enjoy like this without any addiction like hoisin sauce.
It cost me only $16 for this food, I won't see price like this again, especially in the city, also they gave me tea. Staffs are also super welcoming and...
