Pho Vien’s version on this classic is right up there with the best. It really satisfies my craving for pho which I usually satiate at AN Restaurant in Bankstown or with mum’s home-cooked version. The only thing they need is chilli oil/sate sauce and larger slices of lemon.

Pho dac biet is my favourite dish of all time. I’ve had thousands of bowls of pho in my lifetime (in Vietnam, Bankstown, Cabramatta, Canley Vale and Marrickville to name a few). I’ve had it three times at Pho Vien in the past week!

I’ve also had the banh xeo (pancake) and bun cha - which are so so good. The banh xeo was still crispy eaten at home take away! The vietnamese coffee was a little bit too sweet and did not have a strong enough coffee hit - but everything else was close to perfect.

Ashfield has long needed a top quality Vietnamese restaurant and Pho Vien really is a stand out (in my view as good or better than Bankstown and Marrickville). It’s clean, friendly and the decor takes me right back to my days travelling in Hanoi and Hoi An.

I’ve lived in Ashfield for 5 years and I can honestly say this is now the best restaurant in the suburb. Hope you guys maintain this high standard as you now have a very loyal customer and I expect the place to become really busy...

13/10/24 - 5 stars

Not sure why I haven't tried this place earlier, but, definitely would recommend trying if your in Ashfield and want pho. Restaurant has a nice decor and staff are friendly.

Only tried a couple of dishes but they were quite good. I would say that price point is decent but not the best compared to other suburbs (e.g. Marrickville, Bankstown). That being said, it's quite good for inner west.

Combination pho Beef: SS, 9/10. Brisket was nice and tender. Meatballs and rare beef were solid. Appreciated there was a piece of cartilage.

Broth: SS, 9/10. Initially thought a bit salty, but, came to enjoy it more as I went on.

Value: A+, 7.5/10. $20 is pretty good for combination but certainly have had cheaper

Bun cha Pork: SS, 9/10. Tender and flavourful Fish sauce: SS, 9/10. Sweet, salty and umami. Works brilliantly with the other ingredients Value: A+, 7.5/10....

To the management

I thoroughly enjoyed your Pho Special.

The broth is beautiful, you xan smell the beef, just the right amount of fat and saltiness and seasoning.

I have to admit, I normally go to Cabramatta and Bankstown to eat pho and this place has blown me away, who would have thought right in Ashfield.

I am glad thatbyou are here and I am excited to try out my next favourite soup, Bun bo Hue.

The only thing I think you could improve, just a little. Your price is definitely on the HIGH side and that's ok but it would be better to give more meat.

Also, I ordered Beef Special and traditionally has beef bible in it. Not sure if this is an oversight.

I thinkif you read all your reviews, it's a common consensus that more meat is needed for the price you charged. I really hope you take our reviews as a constructive criticism.

Your pho broth...

seriuos warning for all eater! Sat 6-jan 8:30pm, we ordered a bun bo hue and when it came out the noodles are all short and shredded look like they have been came out from many left over bowls, there are few very well cooked shredded onion at the botton of the bowl, but no fresh shredded onion and shallot on top as usual. the beef is soft and nice on top, but at the bottom there were some well cooked beef and flank! After close examine, we were sure this bowl was made from some leftover materials and surely not freshly made. we have reported it to the waitress and she said it's very late and it was the last made from the cook. I stopped eat it after the first spoon and surely I will never dare to come back again, sorry.

I ordered the special combination pho, when it arrived the presentation looked good but the taste is not great, the broth is too salty and thick and wasn't enjoyable to drink, it didn't have that clean fresh broth taste that usual pho places have. Also it is on the priceier side, costing $19.50 for a bowl of pho + card surcharge 70c. Decor looks authentic and well done but the tables are not comfortable with a very straight back and nowhere to put your legs due to the thick supports of the table. I would have preferred the water chilled with a lime or lemon wedge but that's just me being pedantic.
