Sir Joseph Banks Hotel — Restaurant in Sydney

Had Lunch here on Thursday Oct 19 2023. I told the cashier I want "2 Wagyu Rump steaks, medium rare with mashed potato". (I missed the 1st red flag here) Then she asked "how would you want your steak done?" I told her AGAIN "Both of them Medium Rare". She didn't ask about the mashed potato so I assumed she got it. I didn't even check the bill. I couldn't be more wrong. When the steaks are ready I found that they're both come with chips. Mashed potato were nowhere to be found. I went back to the cashier and ask for my mashed potato. The manager replied "special rump steak don't come with mashed potato". I told him "today is Thursday. No special Rump steak available. I've ordered Wagyu Rump Steak". Then the manager said "there will be extra charge for extra mashed potato". (It is obvious that the manager didn't want to admit any fault on their part, just try everything to tell me to "go away"). I certainly refuse to pay extra for mashed potato which I've already ordered & paid for. We also refused to eat the chips which obviously will be the only potato we could get. The chef came out & offer us mashed potato on the house. We refused becoz we always pay for our food. He insisted & claimed that he's Greek & this is a gift. Since he play that culture card, we accepted the mashed potato. Both rump steaks were cooked to medium rare. No complaint re cooking. But the rump steaks doesn't taste like Wagyu at all. Frankly I've had BETTER Rump Steak elsewhere (regular, not wagyu) cost a lot less than $32 each. So ... would I be back in this Sir Joseph Banks Hotel Ever again ? I booked online for a single room at a pub near the Sydney Airport for a great price, for Australia let alone Sydney. ||Thursday night and the place was pumping. Not packed but plenty of people and vibrant.||The first lady that met me was brilliant, efficient and professional. She showed me around and while I got my bags off the bike she ordered me some food before the kitchen closed. ||All three staff behind the bar said friendly and professional hellos checking I was good. ||The manager sorted out the room quickly easily.||The room was delightful. Clean, airy, great bed, neat and spacious. I heard a plane once. I never heard the pub downstairs, nor smelt smoke or beer. In the morning the coffee shop across the road got a few chatty patrons. All in all I slept well. ||Good shower facilities. And true to its, probably, between the wars roots, a deep bath.||The double bacon and beef cheese burger was delicious. I knew I’d get my vegetable material on Friday and after the ride from Canberra it hit the spot big time. ||Don’t usually rabbit on this much but so many dimensions of the SJB (their logo BTW) were that good. ||Hope you get to enjoy it like I did.
