A Hidden Gem for people who are looking for amazing Sushi with Outstanding Service

If you're a fan of top-notch sashimi, sushi rolls, tempura, and Entree's Japanese dishes, this place should be on your must-visit list. The quality of the food here is truly exceptional. Every dish is prepared with meticulous care, ensuring a dining experience that will leave you craving more.

Highlights:

Sashimi: Fresh, melt-in-your-mouth slices that are a true delight. Sushi Rolls: A perfect balance of flavours and textures, crafted with precision. Tempura: Light, crispy, and cooked to perfection. Entree & Salad: An excellent selection of dishes that cater to all tastes.

Service: The service here is just as impressive as the food. The staff are attentive, knowledgeable, and go above and beyond to ensure that your dining experience is flawless. Their professionalism and warmth make you feel valued and well taken care of.

Note: While I thoroughly enjoyed most of the offerings, I found the sushi nigiri to be a bit underwhelming compared to the other dishes. It’s not that it wasn’t good, but I’ve had better sushi nigiri elsewhere. However, this minor point doesn't overshadow the overall quality and experience.

Also, be prepared to wait a bit for your food. The dishes may take some time to arrive, but trust me, it's worth the wait. The attention to detail in every dish is evident, and the flavours do not...

Truly a hidden gem in the city/surry hills. I'm a regular customer ever since the new management took place, for about several months ago or more. For the first month, I experienced long waiting time after ordering because of staff shortage. This place took up the pace since then and has a Japanese serving staff. Also the owner, head chef also speaks fluent Japanese if you are travelling from Japan or can order in Japanese. Menu is served in 5~10mins after ordering. I highly recommend their lunch special set if it's still on. The best value and taste you would find in Sydney, under $20pp. They added ramen menu, Tonkotsu or Nagasaki/seafood ramen I recommend. Most their popular menu has Vegan options/alternative available, my Vegan wife has a handful of her fav Vegan menu. I go try all authentic Japanese ramen shops in Sydney, this one has its own theme. Their ramen is not too oily or heavy, rather light but still got a good portion. Interior and lighting is just perfect for the theme of this Japanese restaurant. The staff are all friendly and nice food. Just try their lunch special set if it's still on, thumbs up. Google review may not have updated menu & recommending dish selections as I can see no ramen or Katsu choices.

the only caution is for car parking spot finding around the street - just plan...

I came here on a Saturday night last weekend and ordered Tempura Udon and the Sushi large set.

The tempura udon was nice and flavourful, noodles were cooked to a good chew, and broth had a umami dashi flavour to it. The tempura prawn and vegetables were decent.

I would've preferred it if the coating was crispier and a little bit thicker as it went soggy quite quickly (due to the broth so that is normal ). The prawn itself was also on the smaller side. A suggestion would be to place the tempura on a separate small plate to accompany the noodles.

The sushi set was great! Fresh fish and the rice had a good amount of flavour, texture and was of decent size. The large set was 20 pieces and came in two plates of 10, which was perfect as I was with my partner. I am unsure if this was due to covid (such that we won't share a plate) but I thought it was a good idea nonetheless especially for dining parties of 2.

Would recommend the sushi set to anyone...

My favorite food spot in Sydney so far (even though, and perhaps BECAUSE it's a bit off the beaten path in Surry Hills neighborhood). The cocktails are creative and delicious, among a great selection of other drinks (alcoholic and not). The pork gyoza was fantastic. Perfect mix of boiled with pan fried for a mix of texture and perfect cooking temp. Sushi (more specifically the sashimi small plate and nigiri small plate) was great and left me wanting to order some a la carte options. Timing is slightly slow so we didn't, but it is very much worth the wait. The space is also very cute and uses sustainable decor (reused metal, wood crates, etc.) and a hand painted mural wall. Highly highly recommend.

The sashimi and nigiri at SUISHIN are some of the best that I have had in Sydney and Japan. The salmon sashimi tasted great and the tuna had a melt in your mouth flavour. Wasabi and soy sauce were also perfectly balanced. The nigiri was perfectly portioned, and the rice worked really well with the nigiri. The aburi was great as well. Everything was really fresh. We also had the kaarage chicken which was delicious as well. Perfectly crispy and juicy. Service was welcoming, and you can tell it's a local gem. Lovely vibes were had. Street parking down Bourke St is your best bet.
