Ta Wan Thai — Restaurant in Sydney

Went to this place on the day of the extended lockdown and didn’t have any other place to go I saw that there is a google rating of over 4 stars and thought that it might be good. I also note that it might also be a biased rating considering I am of subcontinental origin and they were catering towards people born here.

I ordered 3 rice dishes and had to wait for 40 minutes, even though they said 10 minutes. The food was so bad, the rice had a pungent smell. This smell comes when the rice is not washed properly before steaming.

There were so many people ordering from here, just be thinking that this is the way that Thai rice should smell. ITS NOT!

I would not even let my worst enemy eat this food. I threw away the three containers as I was pukish smelling the rice

Little mum n pop place that's great for takeaway. There's a sitting area if you want to have a quick bite and it's clean and tidy. Prices are fantastic, super affordable and the portions are just right, not too much and not too little. Menu, though small, has all the essential dishes. I had the chilli basil fried rice with tofu and the flavours were good, they even made sure to ask if eggs were okay in case I was vegan! The rice was fantastic, not greasy at all and you can tell the wok is really well seasoned from the results! Too bad we live so far away or I would be eating...

I've never given a negative review to anywhere but thought I'd share my experience with others. After reading all the positive reviews, I tried their take away. Food tasted good, a bit salty but immediately after eating, all of us started having stomach ache, which isn't gone yet after few hours. I'm not sure what was wrong with it but it's not a feeling you'd want to experience. I hope the owner will read this and improve the quality of the ingredients and use fresh ones. Unless that happens, I don't recommend this place. This isn't my main account as I wish to...
