Oh no! I loved the pub before the renovation - it had character and atmosphere. I was happy to see it reopen. In I went on a Saturday night for a meal and drinks.
The pub is now a sort of (small) sports bar downstairs with the main (huge) screen being made up of multiple screens showing multiple sports. Other screens are dotted around showing NRL - is anybody really interested in NRL? No one was bothering to watch - mind you there were only a few people in the bar so maybe I’ll save that for another day.
The downstairs bar has no atmosphere and has a few tables and stools dotted here and there but with the big screen dominating the room not a place to have a drink. I gave it a go and ordered a schooner of Peroni - ‘no schooners sir, you have to have it in a special Peroni glass’. The glass is 300ml and cost me $12.12 with a credit card payment. Damn! At least Ned Kelly had the courtesy to wear a mask when he was robbing you! I know portions are getting smaller and prices aren’t but in another place nearby I’d just bought a 330ml Asahi for $10.
Upstairs I went to try the bistro - bar mixed with a bistro that is. I felt like I’d walked into IKEA - the furniture that is. Saturday night and it was quiet. I didn’t order the food as it didn’t feel right for a Saturday evening dinner.
There was a small balcony area which looked ok.
All in all I’m biased - I loved the pub before but it has been replaced with a soulless and cheap feeling interior with no character so please excuse...

I write reviews regularly for places and always look to be positive.
Food here was good, however we only had the schnitzels so didn't get to try much of the menu.
Sports bar was excellent, one of the best sports bars I have been to in North Sydney. Great screen to watch the footy.
It was a Thursday night and they had a special on schnitzels. The bar tender that served us was lovely but was very green and didn’t apply the special discount to the order.
After noticing the discount wasn't applied, the young man behind the bar asked the manager to help. He came over and then gave us one complimentary drink even though three of us had ordered the schnitzel. I then asked "could the rest of us get the complimentary drink" he looked at me and said “I am only dealing with one.”
I thought this was shocking service.
The young man behind the bar was lovely but inexperienced.
The manager seemed inconvenienced and brushed us off, even though we were only asking for what was offered.
I have worked in customer service for the last 10 years and always look to give a good review. I was disappointed with the manager and am happy to speak to management about by experience as it was only his interaction with my three friends that lowered the review.
I also asked my friends for their feedback and they agreed with my thoughts.
Service is so important in any industry and this was not a good experience.
5/5 for the sports bar

Read morePOOTATO! this place is usually great but I had the most horrid experience ever today. I ate a fried potato chip and I was hit with the horrid taste of poo in my mouth! It was vial! I spat it out and could then smell it, like fresh human poo! My buddy helped me with a napkin, rinsed my mouth with beer and got the attention of staff. I explained what happened and told them to smell the chip because it stank of poo. They refused! I insisted but they refused and took the plate away. A manager came over and I told him to smell the chip. I think he thought I was joking and I offered him to smell the napkin that I spat in and he went to the kitchen. I was insisting that they report this to the kitchen to ensure no one else had the same experience. But to my shock they didn't do anything. When we left we spoke to the Chef and asked if he smelt the chip, he said he didn't have any smell. They handled this really poorly and I'm very disappointed as I work close by and like this place. I've since searched the net and found that rotten potato tastes and smells like poo, so at least I'm happy that I didn't...
