Ambiance: Birdcage offers a cozy yet vibrant setting that resonates well with a relaxed dining experience. Its décor is inviting, perfect for casual meals with a touch of sophistication.
Cuisine: The culinary journey at Birdcage was a mixed bag, showcasing both highlights and areas needing improvement.
Beef Burger: The burger came with rustic chips and featured a heavily charred beef patty, which was juicy and complemented by a generous layering of beef tomato, lettuce, pineapple, and bacon. The char on the beef provided a robust smoky flavor, but the patty itself lacked seasoning, which could have elevated the taste. The blend of pineapple added a unique, refreshing twist, creating a delightful contrast with the savory bacon.
Frappes: Both frappes offered were refreshing. The standout was the pineapple-infused frappe, which burst with freshness and a tantalizing tropical flair, making it a must-try beverage.
Prawn Linguine: The linguine was a hit, perfectly cooked to al dente. The prawns were tender and well-seasoned, with fresh chilies that imparted a bold kick without overpowering the delicate seafood. This dish was a testament to the kitchen’s ability to handle flavors and textures adeptly.
Service: Service was prompt and courteous, enhancing the dining experience. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu, offering recommendations that did not disappoint.
Overall Experience: Birdcage stands out with its unique twists on classic dishes, particularly with the refreshing addition of pineapple in both the burger and the frappe. While the burger's patty could benefit from more seasoning, the overall meal was satisfying. The prawn linguine alone is worth a visit, showcasing the kitchen's prowess with pasta and seafood. Birdcage is a commendable choice for anyone looking to enjoy a laid-back meal in a...
Read moreHad a really strange experience here which doesn't match other reviews at all and I usually don't feel the need to leave negative reviews on places. Visited this on Saturday morning with a friend and we ordered some drinks and two bowls of the Vanilla Chai Porridge for breakfast. Our drinks were good which is why this got 2 stars, but the porridge was not at all. When ordering, the staff asked what milk we wanted with it so we specified one with skim and one with regular. When the porridges came out though, the guy just served them indifferently, so we asked which one had which milk. He was confused what we meant, so we told him another staff member asked us which milk we wanted when ordering, so he said, "Eh they're probably both with skim milk then". First oddity. Then we tried the porridge which had a sprinkling of frozen berries and a little rhubarb, the porridge tasted like absolutely nothing. As in straight from the cupboard with water, boiled and served. Not an ounce of flavour. And definitely no vanilla or chai. And no sweetness or anything at all. As plain as plain can be. So we thought maybe we were missing a syrup to go with it. We asked the staff and she said "No, that's how it comes, but I can get you some maple syrup?" We took the maple syrup which was its saving grace. Just very strange it tasted like absolutely nothing, and we're not usually picky people, but $20 for a bowl of tasteless porridge?! The whole situation was slightly odd and seemed like the staff wasn't even sure of what's going on with the food. Wish I could've liked it better as other reviews...
Read moreI’ve been to this cafe 4-5 times before, and the food was alright, but today I’ve had the worst cafe experience. I ordered eggs benny with halloumi on the side, when I got my food, eggs were overcooked (almost boiled eggs). I never returned my food orders to the kitchen before and thought I’d try eating it, had a bite and it was really bad. I politely asked the gentleman serving me to get it re-done. He didn’t seem to be very happy about it, and suggested I get eggs on the side (but this is not the eggs benny experience). I declined his offer and asked for it to be done properly. I didn’t think it was a big deal, things can happen. Shortly after he brought my eggs benny back and it was the hollandaise soup. I’ve never seen anything like that before, it was covered in the enormous amount of sauce. This is the photo after I tried to scrape it to the sides. I couldn’t finish it because it’s just too much fat for any normal human. After I got my order back, I received zero customer service, no one approached me to check if everything was fine and no one asked me about my experience when I was paying. I paid almost $30 for this and tea, and left feeling sick and ripped off. I...
