We've been going to Love Supreme for years and have usually found it to be quite good - although the pizzas aren't the best in the eastern suburbs the location and vibe of the place made up for that - things seem to have changed however with the last couple of visits being underwhelming - culminating in our last visit early this week when we booked a table for 12 of us and some friends who wanted to try LS. The booking was for 7pm and we were there right on time. After a short wait we were given a table which was right out the back, which would have been ok but it was definitely not a table for 12 - more like 8-10 max - but again that was ok as we were lucky to get a booking as the place was full. The moment we walked in someone turned the already loud music up a couple of notches to the point where we could hardly hear ourselves - we asked for it to be turned down a little and the volume was reluctantly reduced. We ordered at about 7:15 and the service was good up to then - our entrees and wine were brought around by 7:30 and everyone thought they were fine. It was then an embarrassingly long wait for our pizzas to arrive - when we could actually attract their attention we asked our waiters repeatedly when we could expect our pizzas - their response, with no apology whatsoever, was that it was very busy and/or there was a problem with the "pizza making" - although there was another large table that came in after us and they were served their pizzas well before ours arrived. By 8:45 (and yet another complaint to the waiter - this time I had to go to the front of the restaurant to speak to him) most of our table were ready to leave and find somewhere else to eat - the rest had just lost their appetites - we finally got our pizzas just before 9pm (again with no apologies or explanation). By that time we'd basically lost our appetites and weren't all that hungry and luckily so - the pizzas were at best luke warm and quite burnt around the edges - and most of them were pretty tasteless overall - they had obviously been sitting on the counter for some time. It's difficult to give this place a low rating as it's been a very good pizza restaurant in the past - but it was a very disappointing experience and not for the first time - bad service and average food should not be ignored. I will not be going to this place again nor will I be recommending...
Read moreI would love to give 5 stars, but I’m being generous with 3. To premise, I would rate 5 for the meal alone. But the service was so disappointing.
I think we waited about 20 minutes for a table (with little acknowledgment of the few of us piling up the door) to begin with. I understand the staff were busy and they possibly needed an extra pair of eyes and hands on the floor but they seemed pretty relaxed considering (/if they were understaffed.) When we were finally seated we were surprised to see there were many tables available, they just hadn’t made them up yet. Which was strange as we had been standing at the door for close to 30 mins. I was starving so we ordered straight away. Our drinks were forgotten, there was also some confusion about what drinks were available and who was waiting on us. I ended up waiting somewhere around 45 minutes - an hour for my gnocchi. And we didn’t get a single check in that time. Not sure if they forgot or what happened. Once it came, it was slightly on the small side.. but the melt in your mouth texture and absolutely gorgeous quality and taste made up for it. Honestly, for such a high class beautiful restaurant with gorgeous food, the service was extremely disappointing. I really hope it was a ‘bad night’ for these guys because I’d like to try again and hope it’s better organised. I did have my hopes up as 2 friends had recommended, so I hope the lack of service isn’t a regular thing. Cmon Love Supreme! Give me some...
Read more(4.5 stars) Bosko Vujovic, the man who made Arthur’s Pizza a rite of passage for Sydneysiders, is the king of the thin at Love Supreme. This Paddington pizzeria sits behind a fairly standard coffee-shop style street frontage. A long thin galley runs alongside an open kitchen housing an Italian wood-fired oven that cooks pizzas in three minutes. The galley widens out into a high-ceilinged, contemporary industrial dining room. It’s a great place to sink a beer—the Wildflower Organic Table Beer Sour ($10/each)—to the sounds of Japanese Breakfast.
What sets this pizzeria apart—besides the aforementioned light, thin and crisp bases—is making the widest possible use of organic ingredients. Standout green olives and pistachios join juicy slices of blood orange and ribbons of fennel ($16) in an enjoyable pizza companion salad. Sardines, filleted by hand, are the stars of Gianni ($25) a white-based pizza with red onion, more fennel and green olives. The thinnest possible slices of Dutch cream potatoes tangoing with sweet caramelised onion and pungent Adelaide Hills blue cheese make Tito ($25) another white-based star from the pizza menu.
I’d like to explore more of these foldable thin-based pizzas that sit ever so lightly in your stomach. The other must-try here is the gelato. The fior di latte (simply “milk”) made on Cleopatra’s bath milk is a thing of beauty. The blood orange sorbet...
