I attended The Winston for lunch today with a group totalling 14 adults and 4 kids and found this experience hard to review. If I was rating the meals I would give them a 4.5. It would have been a 5 except for the fact that my sister in law ordered a well done steak and at best it was medium rare. When it came to drinks and bar service the ratings are at the other end of the scale. At best I would rate them one and that is only because the group did state that the Tropical mocktail was delicious. I wouldn't know because after waiting over 1 hour I went back to the bar to get a refund and surprise surprise they couldn't find my order. If that was a one off I could accept that accidents happen. However, my wife had earlier ordered the same drink and had to return 3 times to the bar to find out what happened to her drink. Again, they could not find her order. On her third time, she was told that it would still be another 6 minutes. My wife and daughter later ordered a hot chocolate and chai latte. To quote them the hot chocolate was cool to luke warm and the latte had no flavour and was just like a warm plain milk. Four other members of the party also had to wait 30-45 minutes for their drinks. As it was not crowded I found the whole drinks experience completely unsatisfactory and unprofessional. I would also suggest that you update your drinks menu. After trying to order Savignon Blanc I was informed that you don't serve the advertised brands anymore. While not being able to get the wine i wanted was not a major issue, it was a shame that the drinks' service did not match the quality...
Read moreMy partner & i dropped into The Winston (The Winsto to us) yesterday for lunch. Our go to & fav pub in Sydney for many years. Sadly the new decor & renovations are really letting this iconic pub down. The decor no longer suits the area or this once attractive pub. Its now a very confusing & congested place. Too many tables & decor akin in some areas to being in a homewares store, instead of a relaxing pub dining area & atmosphere this pub once enjoyed. It hurts your head to look around with wall hangings, macramĂ©, ornaments & above all curtains, covering up walls & beautiful stone features. This might fly in the inner city but it doesnt suit this location or style of pub. Totally overdone ! The women's bathroom in the dining area was filthy & 2 toilets overflowing & toilet paper all over the floors. Nothing like the previous standard this pub enjoyed ! Our steaks were enjoyable but 1 was overcooked for medium rare, chips were great but i prefer my salad with dressing on the side not swimming in it. Our garlic bread had been cut on a board with some other sauce left on it which transferred to our breadđŹPoor show ! Our meal was overpriced for this location @ $108 food & drinks on top of this costing ...
Read moreVisited on the 1/6/2021 and again mixing my pursuit of a love life with dates and places to drink and talk and to see where the date goes. Again on this occasion the date didnât go at all. Anyway this is a busy hub for eating, drinking and talking. Again this place serves pints (should be the standard), however it seems schooners and middies have been here since 1788. Who drinks middies? Thereâs a number of different areas and bars in the establishment and no shortage of choice. This was a meet and greet date so I wasnât intending on sampling the fine food fragrance that hung nicely in the air between myself and my beautiful date. However, âsheâ (I wonât dox) wanted some wedges. Surprisingly there were no wedges but I went with a plate of hot chips with fancy white sauce. Iâm still a fan of tomato sauce, however on a date it pays to be sophisticated (even though I paid for drinks and chips it did not payout date wise). Nevertheless, the hot chips were lovely, she ate most of them but I was working in charm mode and not hungry. So prices equal to most places, plenty of parking and there was no smooch at close of date. Another one...
