In the spirit of celebrating a family birthday, we ventured to "Tikka Take Sydney," an establishment that, despite its inviting ambiance, left us with a sour taste that no dessert could sweeten (and hence not ordered at the said establishment). The evening was supposed to be a joyous occasion, a simple yet significant celebration for our family of five. However, what transpired was a series of unfortunate events that I feel compelled to share.
Let's start with the positives, for fairness' sake. The ambiance of the restaurant was indeed pleasant, with tasteful decor and a welcoming atmosphere. It was the kind of place that, upon entering, raises your expectations and sets the stage for what should be a delightful dining experience. Sadly, that was pretty much the peak of our evening.
The first misstep in our culinary journey was the realisation that the food portions did not align with the prices charged. As a family, we understand the value of quality over quantity, but when both are lacking, one can't help but feel shortchanged. This discrepancy was just the appetizer to a main course of disappointment.
Our dinner orders took an astonishing 50 minutes to arrive, and this was after I inquired about our food three times. Mind you, this was on a weekday evening when the restaurant was far from bustling. The delay was particularly agonising as our children were hungry, and the ticking clock reminded us of the school night and the bedtime routines awaiting us at home.
When our meals finally graced our table, the taste was underwhelming, to say the least. It seemed as though the dishes had been prepared in haste, perhaps in reaction to my growing displeasure at the wait time. The flavors were forgettable, and the presentation suggested a lack of care. It was a meal that, unfortunately, did nothing to celebrate the occasion or justify the wait.
In an attempt to salvage the evening, two gentlemen from the restaurant came over to apologise for the delay. While their apologies are appreciated, they could not turn back time or undo the frustration and hunger our family experienced. An apology, no matter how sincere, does not equate to efficient service or quality dining.
Reflecting on the evening, I can't help but wonder how they manage on a weekend if this is the standard of service on a relatively quiet weekday. It is crucial for serving staff to check on their guests promptly and ensure that their dining experience is smooth and enjoyable, especially when the restaurant is not at full capacity.
In conclusion, our experience at Tikka Take was one we'd rather forget. The nice ambiance is overshadowed by the lack of value, excessive wait times, average food, and overall disappointing service. It's a stark reminder that a pleasant environment cannot compensate for fundamental flaws in service and quality. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this restaurant, especially for those looking to celebrate a...
Read moreI like that there are a lot of menu options but if you are unable to keep up with it, it doesn’t work. When we asked for a physical menu (which they had) we were advised to access the QR code - if you are someone with limited experience with technology how are they supposed to access this? Once we were given the hard copy of the menu we were told “not all dishes are available that are showing.” So your hard copy doesn’t match what’s online - not a great first impression.
Once food was ordered, staff was constantly confused if it belonged to us which ended up confusing us and having to constantly go back and check what we had ordered. Drinks were served without a tray and waiters had their hands on the straws (not very hygienic).
Our chicken sizzler and paneer sizzler had 0 sizzle (not exaggerating) so it was just a tray with paneer and chicken pieces. The other tables who ordered the same thing were served with a sizzling hot plate.
Portion sizes for Manchurian and chow mein and pretty much everything were so so small. You’re paying $18+ a dish and it’s served as a small size? You can pay the same price for the same dish in other Desi restaurants and you will get double what was served here.
Part of our orders didn’t turn up till our meals were finished (roti) and then dishes we never ordered kept turning up - this happened 3 times and not just that, we were charged for things we didn’t order so we had to re-check our menu over and over, show it to staff and get refunded for things that we didn’t ask for.
When you have a large group of people it is already hard to keep up, as a restaurant you should be making it easier and managing the people that are eating there, after all you are providing a service. You should not be making it more difficult for the people that are eating there. The waiters are young and that’s fine, but they don’t know how to provide service. Please work on customer service skills. They don’t know what is going on and they can barely keep up themselves.
My dad found a long hair in his lamb vindaloo. My dad is already very, very sensitive to these kinds of things. This alone was a huge turn off and he didn’t want to eat after that.
We went for my husband’s birthday and I invited my family members, because of the experience I apologised to every one of them for the experience because I felt guilty for choosing this place.
There was a lovely waiter at the end that was clearing up and he asked about our experience and I didn’t want to tell him because we had already let our grievances known but he insisted so I told him a little bit and he was apologising profusely. He also agreed that they aren’t keeping up with the menu and the technology, it is not a great system. He told me that next time we come back it’ll be better.
Truth be told we likely won’t ever come back. I was trying to do something nice for my husband’s birthday, but we left very sorely...

Tikka Take in Norwest was a pleasant surprise! The ambience and vibe were great, with a good selection of music playing at just the right volume in the background. We only ordered a few dishes, but we enjoyed everything we tried. The kids' meal portion was very generous, making it fun for our two children who are usually hard to please. We'll definitely be back to try more items on the menu.
The cushioning on the chairs could be improved as they felt a bit uncomfortable at certain angles. Despite that, the atmosphere was beautiful. The staff were all lovely, helping us with our orders and giving great suggestions. We had a pleasant and excellent service by Mr. Stavan and the team, who served us with utmost care.
The food was amazing, full of great flavors and presented well. Since their opening last December, we’ve been back and the food remains delicious.
We had the following delicacies: Paneer Palace Butter Bowl Spicy Paneer Dum Biryani Methi Mutter Malai Curry Daal Makhani Saffron Basmati Rice
For desserts, we enjoyed: Royal Pearl Delights Nest of Creamy Bliss
Overall, an excellent dining experience with flavourful food. Highly recommend!
12th December 2023 (late review) My recent visit to Tikka Take at their new Norwest location in Sydney was a pleasant experience. Having previously relished their offerings in Canberra, we opted for the Paneer Tikka skewer, Chaap skewer, and Indo-Chinese Sizzler . Complemented by Saffron basmati rice, paneer makhani curry with butter and coriander, and chilli Naan, our choices were delightful.
Given that the restaurant had only opened four days prior, they were operating with a limited menu. Orders were conveniently placed through a QR code linked to the Mr Yum website for online ordering and payment.
Our initial order, totalling around $65, arrived promptly. However, a subsequent order placed seven minutes later wasn't registered in their system, resulting in a 30-minute wait. The floor manager swiftly addressed the issue after I presented both receipts, acknowledging the occasional technical glitches.
Manager Stavan, upon verifying the receipts, promptly organized the food preparation. Though our curry had cooled while waiting for the Naan bread, Stavan's exceptional kindness led him to arrange for a fresh curry. His humility and dedication ensured every customer's satisfaction. Stavan not only accommodated us graciously but also apologized sincerely for the initial hiccups.
Due to the limited menu, dessert options were limited to ice cream, which we didn't opt for this time. However, we're looking forward to revisiting to explore their dessert offerings on our...
