WARNING - DO NOT GO. This restaurant has terrible customer service, hostile attitude, and unfriendly atmosphere. It has all the negative attributes that are exactly opposite to what you would expect from an authentic Japanese restaurant. This is my second visit and my husband's third visit within the past 3 months. We went today (25 June 2022) again for a quick dinner. We were the third pair of couple to be seated when the restaurant opened at 6pm. We ordered the deluxe sushi plater (24 pieces) and a set of sea urchin sashimi. When placing the order, I asked one of the staff members whether he could kindly let me know what "deluxe" sushi pieces were included in the platter, the staff reacted quite impatiently and responded "belly, belly, belly, otoro, scampi". His incomplete and unhelpful answer took me by surprise, I asked if he could kindly clarify. He got quite agitated, and instead of providing further clarifications on what sushi pieces were included in the platter, he advised us that we should order sashimi instead. His exact quote is as follows "The chef is going to make all the sashimi orders before making sushi orders. You see that everyone is having dinner at the same time. You will need to wait for at least one hour for the sushi." The restaurant does NOT inform customers at the time of booking that sushi orders require at least an hour of waiting time. I booked the restaurant a few weeks in advance over the phone and reconfirmed my booking again over the phone the day before, and I was never informed of the required sushi wait time. My husband and I were essentially forced to stick with the restaurant at 6pm on a Saturday (it's not like we had a choice because it wouldn't be easy to get a table at another decent restaurant within convenient distance at that time). We agreed that we would wait. We enjoyed the sea urchin sashimi and waited for a solid one hour before we could enjoy our sushi. The deluxe sushi platter was underwhelming. It had two pieces of scampi sushi and two pieces of otoro sushi (they're quite good), the rest of the platter was basically cheap sashimi fish that were plain in flavor and chewy in texture. I didn't finish my portion and asked my husband to take care of them. Here comes the worst part of the dining experience - after I paid for the bill I asked the manager (who handled my bill) for an itemised receipt. He made a belittling remark with a dismissive tone, he said "You only ordered two items and you are asking for an itemised receipt? What?". My reply was affimative. He shook his head, disappeared from the scene and returned with a photocopy of the itemised receipt. I was about to say thank you when I looked up and met his eyes, he gave me a stare of total contempt and threw the receipt on the dining table as if I owed him a debt. I did not want to confront the rude manager or the agitated waiter inside the restaurant as the restaurant was serving other customers at the time the unpleasant incident happened. I did not want to make the restaurant staff feel embarrassed by their own unprofessional behavior. Once I walked out of the restaurant, I called the restaurant to express my disappointment with the service attitude throughout the night. I was utterly shocked that the manager ranted and complained to me over the phone that I should not be asking for an itemised receipt when I only ordered two dishes, and that it is totally normal to wait for an hour for sushi. I was startled. He hung up on me. I called again to request an apology, he shouted at me over the phone again and blocked my number. This is an absolutely traumatic dining experience from start to finish. I would strongly recommend all my friends and family to avoid going to the restaurant. Never again!

We visited this suburban Japanese restaurant for dinner recently and chose their first seating at 6pm. You can only book seating through the mobile phone on their website and you should book since their place is quite compact and their business is very busy so I don't think they can take guests with no booking. We tried their basic degustation menu intended for first time visitors like us and it consists of many selection of their signature dishes (see pictures below and item list here: https://www.toriciya.com.au/?go=food&cat=1&pg=2). The dishes are of good quality and truly represent both traditional and modern Japanese cuisine. We love all of them, but especially the saikyo-yaki black cod and the fried popcorn lobster tails. I also ordered an extra piece of chu-toro blue-fin tuna sashimi since they're in season and quite a prized delicacy. All in all, the dinner experience was a nice one and though we spent more than usual, we think the dinner was quite reasonable value for money. The small place is charming and feel more intimate and authentic like those small izakaya bar in Japanese city; but the current pandemic may make some to be uncomfortable to sit quite close to other guests. The customer service from floor staff is quite good for Japanese restaurant in quiet suburb like Cammeray though the staff who received our phone booking was quite hard to understand on the phone due to his heavy Jap-English accent. The only thing that we don't like on the experience is that the place charged rip-off level of 2% credit card surcharge and it is hard to pay with cash due to their high dinner costs.

Amazing Japanese bistro hidden in Cammeray. Decor and ambience are on point; definitely takes me back to travels in Japan. Whilst it is expensive, probably one of the first times I have felt like I did generally get what I paid for. Service was attentive. Aburi Nigiri: S+, 8.5/10. All of the fish were excellent. Personally thought the scallop was not as smooth and creamy as others I've had, but the rest were immaculate. Very expensive at $58 but certainly one of the better aburi I've had in Sydney. Scampi Miso Soup: SS, 9/10. Depth of flavour and umami were top notch. Came with aburi set but $5 with other sushi. 5 Kinds of Sashimi Belly: S, 8/10. Still excellent but not quite as good as the aburi. Just as expensive too at $56. Ootoro was good as always. Karubi (rib finger): SS, 9/10. Amazingly well cooked. Juicy, tender and umami. $7 each but well worth it. Butabara (pork belly): S, 8/10. Good but a bit lacking compared to wagyu, $5.5 Momo (chicken thigh): S+, 8.5/10. Also very tender and juicy but missing that extra flavour Miso onigiri: S, 8/10. Certainly one of the best onigiri I've had in Sydney. Whilst expensive at $7, at least the miso topping and preparation of the charred rice was high quality.

Great food but horrible service First off like everyone said here the food is amazing What ruined this experience however was the service, absolutely disgraceful, the head chef seemed to not like us at all, he said hello when we entered and proceeded to ignore us completely afterwards. It seemed like we offended him the moment we sat down at the table. He never spoke to us, only to the Japanese couple next to us and when they left he disappeared. A while later An Aussie couple sat down and he was back and chatting away with them. However he did not seem to want to acknowledge us at all. He prepared all the sashimi we ordered but instead of giving it directly to us (we were sitting right in front of him at the counter seats) he walked away and put it down on the side table for the waitress to give to us. For the Japanese and Aussie couple they got the food directly from him, I'm not sure why me sitting right next to them was that much harder. At one point he was talking to the waitress in a very angry tone, then gestured towards us. This was the last straw for me, bad manners is one thing but to talk about me in another language when you're only two metres in front of me is ridiculous. I should note that at this point I've still had zero interaction with him aside from the initial hello. I should correct my initial statement the remaining staff attitude was fine, I had no problem with them throughout the night. Oh and another correction the sashimi platter (30 pieces plus 3 scampi) was a letdown, the cuts were average and i could not count 30 pieces there. Better option is to just order the types of sashimi you want, recommend sea urchin, scampi and o toro, ordered them separately and they were great. Lobster popcorn was great as well as the skewers and dessert was...

We had a reservation at 6pm on Sunday. My friend called to make a reservation and received a text message the day before (sat) requesting to confirm the dinner via text reply otherwise the booking would be cancelled.

Although the food was alright but the service is extremely bad. We were seated at a shared table and dinner was interruptive as they need to bend over the table in order to serve the customers seated next to me. We had a 6 year old with us and also ordered udon. The sushi took over an hour to serve and udon came much later after too. When I followed up with the waitress she argued with me and said i should have told them the udon was for kid so it would come a bit faster. There's no way in the menu which states that ”clause”. I said to her you could have noticed a kid sitting with us and it stated in the reservation. To make it worsworth couple sitting next to us also ordered udon but came later after us however was served udon before us. So I brought it up again to a waiter and he was more honest and apologetic and said that they made a mistak with the order. Seriously even if the udon was for an adult, taking over an hour is quite ridiculous. So was the sushi! And did i mention that the seating is only for 2 hours? By 7.30pm the same rude waitress came along and told us it's our last order if we wanted something else or dessert.

The bill turns out to be quite expensive too, especially for a place that's not in the city.

No parking so need to find street parking.

We will never be back again and won't recommend it to anyone. I have worked in Japan for a year before and have never encountered a waitress who is this rude. Utterly unacceptable and a true...
